FS: Mark VIII Stainless Steel Rear Shock Mounting Kit V2.0

DLF

Registered
A complete bolt-on 304 Stainless Steel Rear Shock Mounting Kit.

Mounting Plates, with Energy Suspension Poly Bushings, 1/8" thick bushing washers, and the required 8mm hardware. Everything that you will need to install Thunderbird shocks in your Mark VIII.

The standard kit will have 3/8" (.375") ID bushings and washers for use with most domestic shock brands.

I can also supply the kits with 12mm (.472") ID bushings and washers for use with OEM Lincoln or Koni shocks.

If you need a different ID, please contact me.

Measure your shock shafts BEFORE you order!

If you do not specifically request the 12mm kit when you pay, then I will ship the 3/8" kit.

I will not sell this kit without the ES bushings and 1/8” washers as the bushings and washers supplied with replacement shocks will not fit through the hole in the body.

10 kits only, when they're gone, they're gone for good!

$65 shipped (lower 48)

If I were to make another batch of these, the price would have to go up to $85 shipped.

Is there any interest at that price?

Would making them out of the Delrin be more cost effective?

A Delrin plate couldn't handle the forces.

The bulk of the cost is in getting the stainless steel plates cut via water jet (almost $30/pr.). Then there's buying/machining the stainless steel washers, the poly bushings, stainless hardware and welding. Not to mention shipping and PayPal fees. :(

I might be able to go as low as $80, but I'd like to make a little for my time and effort.

Doug, why don't you sell them as bare plates with bolts ? I am sure there are people who have the shocks or will buy shocks and those will come with bushings and washers ?

I thought all the subframe bushings you make are from delrin. I was thinking if they can handle it, the shock mounts could too. :)

Like J said, it doesn't have to look pretty. Haha

It's been my experience that the bushings and washers that come with shocks will not fit through the small hole in the body.

Actually, the sub-frame mounts are UHMW. ;)

I suppose that I could make a bushing that fits the hole in the body, however, I don't know if the body is strong enough to take the stress without a metal plate. In the Thunderbirds, there is an additional welded metal reinforcement in that area that is not present in the Mark VIII.

You could install the bushings after bolting the adapter plate in place.

Let's be honest $80 is a lot of money for the mounts, especially when you can buy the regular painted steel ones for less than half. Don't take it the wrong way, I am just trying to open up the market for ya ;)

Looks like I found another place to cut the plates, but I'd have to buy 50 pieces to get the price down.

If I do, I'd be able to sell the complete kit for $70 or just the plates for $50.

I've got to decide if I'd actually be able to sell 25 sets in a reasonable period of time.
