Fuel Pump in 2nd Gens

What's the story with the fuel pump in the 2nd Gen cars ? Is it the same as in 1st gens ? I think I read somewhere, that it is a variable voltage unit ... is this true ? Did any of you guys have problems running the 255lph units ? Maybe a typical variable voltage fuel pump say from a 03-04 cobras would be a better choice ? Guys that run the 255 in their variable voltage systems have many problems with the walbros ... I would like to stick to the in-tank pumps though.

RE: Fuel Pump in 2nd Gens

it's still a return style so it should be the same as the gen 1's. I don't know though, i thought i heard about some variable voltage crap too. Lidio should be able to fix it, though.

FWIW Motorcraft P/N PFB31 is for 93-96 while PFB75 is for 97-98. And the 97-98 lists substantially cheaper.

RE: Fuel Pump in 2nd Gens

When I took my first gen fuel pump out, I noticed..

1 ground wire and two hot leads going INTO the fuel pump hanger assembly.

BUT..inside the tank there is only TWO wires.. 1 hot 1 ground.

thought it was kinda curious and assummed it was the "variable voltage" stuff.

But..
Why three wire going IN.. yet only TWO going to the pump.

Kinda makes ya go HMMMMMMM

P.S. 255l Walboros for roughly 100.00 and change from

I heard about 99+ Cobras having problems with Walbro 255lph intank pumps not sure if it works OK on 97-98 Mark VIII's.

It's not the fact that they are returnless what makes the walbro a bad choice. It's the variable voltage control that makes it suitable for reutrnless. I am sure someone is running the high pressure walbro in their 2nd Gen .... ???

I know of one guy locally that will be, if not two. Is it the same pump that one would find in a '96-98 Cobra? If it is, I know a few of those locally running around that have them too.

RE: Fuel Pump in 2nd Gens

I am about to buy either one or two fuel pumps to fit my needs. But I am still unsure whether the fuel pump driver module in the 2nd gens will work fine with regular HP walbros ?

There's a new aviator pump out there, that flows more han the 255 HP walbro, but obviously aviator has returnless style fuel system.

Anyone ?
