Fuel Pump Replacement

Fuel Pressure Regulator

The fuel pressure regulator (9C968):

is mounted on the fuel injection supply manifold (9F792) downstream of the fuel injectors.
regulates the fuel pressure supplied to the fuel injectors (9F593).
is a diaphragm-operated relief valve. One side of the diaphragm senses fuel pressure and the other side is subjected to intake manifold vacuum.
obtains nominal fuel pressure by a spring preload applied to the diaphragm.
balances one side of the diaphragm with manifold pressure to maintain a constant fuel pressure drop across the fuel injectors.
bypasses and returns excess fuel to the fuel tank.

Thank you for the detailed explanation.

Now, due to the high concern for my personal safety I decided to go back in and operate with soder and shrink wrap. In conclusion:

Sodering iron -$15

Heat gun and wrap-$22

Beer for my friend -$9
----------------------
Piece of mind knowing the wire won't come loose and the gas tank won't explode- Priceless

Is that shrink wrap tubing rated for exposure to gasoline?

Just when I think I am in the clear. Well I stopped by the tool shop I bought it at and their distributor was closed and they didn't know. So I will follow up tomorrow. Better to be safe than sorry.
