Fuel tank question-'93

While my Mark was up on the rack getting the trans out, I was under looking for something that might be rattling. It sounds like shock mounts but I already replaced them. Lower control arm bushings looked good, anti sway bar ok. Then I pressed up on the fuel tank and heard what could be the source of the noise. The question is, on the left side of the fuel tank I could physically push up on the tank and it would move about two inches vertically. Both tank straps are tight and the right side of the tank is held firm. What is holding up the tank on the left side? Is something missing or is this normal?

RE: Fuel tank question-'93

That's not normal at all. The tank should be held tight.

I can't remember off the top of my head exactly how the tank is supported, though. I know there are two straps going underneath, from front to back, and there's a bolt in the front and back of each strap. But i don't recall what it's held tight to on the top.

RE: Fuel tank question-'93

The straps are the only thing holding the tank in place. I've replaced the fuel pump on two 1st gens and found just the straps.
