Will a 4.10, 4.30 or 4.56 rear end gear fit in the stock rear end of our cars? I had a 3.73 and the car shut off at 112 with a dif. gear will I be able to run a 1/4 mile w/o shutting off?

thanks zack

Yes, many folks here have installed 4.10s.

RE: gears

All you need is a chip to bypass the speed limiter. Check our vendors.

You also need to swap the VSS(Vehicle Speed Sensor) gear(a.k.a. speedometer gear) in the tranny.

If you have a 3.73 rear gear and your car hits the speed limiter in the quarter mile, I want to know what your mods are. }(

RE: gears

no the car didnt shut off in the 1/4 but i am afraid that the car will shut off at like 80 if i run 4.56 gears. I havent heard of anyone with a gear that low in their mark. will the gear fit in the rear end is what i am wondering.
thanks

RE: gears

I know there has been Mark VIIIs with 4.30s and I'm pretty sure a couple with 4.56s. I don't recall, but either at 4.30 or 4.56 you have to modify the differential by using a notched cross-shaft to clear the gear teeth.

You need a chip to have it shift properly and not "shut off" with gears.

When I installed 4.10s in my '93, I had a chip but didn't immediately change the speedo gear. I'm not 100% positive, but for the short time it had the improper speedo gear, I don't think it shifted properly.
