Gears

RE: Gears

Absolutely!!! I thought I was enjoying life in my 30's, but little did I know that my 40's would be so great. Here I am 55, and thus far this decade has been even better.

RE: Gears

Well I can tell you that unless you are going to be doing a lot of racing, or just like the thrill of red light to red light, then you probably don't want to go any further than 3:73. These 4:56 in Phils car are great on launch but at highway cruising speeds you are singing about 3000 RPM and sucking down the go go juice...fast. I think you've made a wise decision. As far as putting them in, I have no clue.

RE: Gears

I am going to go with 3.55 in the red whore. I bought the gears for 35$ at a swap meet, and got the locker for 10$ out of a junked Crown Vic. Just have to throw it in my pumpkin and then in the car.

Pretty much I choose 3.55's because I do not want to spend a ton of money on a stupid driveshaft and I drive down the highway a lot. I have driven Eli's car a couple times with 4.10's. I like them, and have thought about going with them, but decided to stay with my low budget program. Besides once the pearl car gets going again, and I get all my 1/4 mile times, I will most likely want to swap those 4.30's out with some 3.55's. Gotta think ahead.

jsut some things to think about. If you have to get a driveshaft anyway, might as well go with 4.10's. They feel good casue you are always in the powerband.

RE: Gears

Thinking ahead is definately a good mantra for late. After going in the direction I am starting to with the car, and learning exactly what I have about these vehicles, it definately pays to think ahead. Just like your post on your gains for the header work, I am definately going to consider saving up and doing the headers WITH the exhaust.

As far as gears are concerened, I was definately leaning towards 4.10s. However, if I ever do supercharge the car, then 4.10s now would be a waste. I also think about things like a posi and tranny rebuilds. What if my tranny does go eventually. To me it's more efficient to wait to have the gears done, and to throw on a cooler at the same time.

I am definately concerned about preserving mileage and making the car as efficient as possible. The 4.10s sound nice, but if and once I do a supercharger, ehh hem...definately down the road...but possible, I won't be driving the Mark as an everyday like I am now...hence I won't be as concerned about mileage.

Pony your advice is great because even small things have gotten me thinking lately. I have a small crack in my hood from the initial autobody work on my car. Tommy wants to fix it for me, but I've been considering the cobra r hood. It's alot of money to shell out on top of what I've done in the immediate, however, if I do go the route I may be in the future, then it will save me money.

Deep thoughts. Tough decisions.
