gen 1 intake vs. sn-95 cobra intake

Well, back in the old days, head work and cams with a ported intake was one of the many ways to get more power from 'stock' engines. With the advent of the modular engine design with overhead cams, the backyard mechanic was thwarted from this usual practice.

I hardly think ported/polished heads with aftermarket cams on a stock block disqualifies it from being the same engine. In reality the only non-stock parts would be the cams, the other components have just been modified from factory.

I've seen this same discussion on MN12 boards with the SOHC 4.6L and the myriad of options available for that platform. IMHO, as long as the block is the same, you can replace all the components from the crank to the valve covers with available modifications and still have the same drivetrain as factory, just with different levels of modifications.

I agree with you there....I consider Cams a bolt on part as well. Just like headers...just because the cams are inside the engine doesn't mean its all of a sudden some Frankenstien.

There is a fine line though...somewhere.

So, there is alot of conflicting info. people are saying its a good mod and some are saying its almost pointless. My gen 2 told me it wants some more power. I was planning on porting the stock manifold, but now it seems it will be a total waste of time. So now im thinking of doing what everybody else is doing and just throwing in the cobra manifold. Heres the thing. I wont be getting a tune for a little while...

I am going to delete egr, am I going to get problems? besides the obvious CE

Will the manifold still improve performance without a tune?

ALL this talk made me want one bad now.... lol
