Gen 2 Seats swap into a Gen 1

Hey, does anyone know how easily (or difficultly) it would be to put some Gen 2 heated seats into a 95? Are the tracks different, and what would need to be done to wire them?

I haven't done it, always thought about it. I'm pretty sure it's a direct swap. I think Geno did this on the termininator. Might want to give him a call.

It's far easier to buy an aftermarket heating pad and install them. Jeremi did it, do a search and you can probably find his post about it in the archives.

The reason I am asking is because the car has 197K and the driver seat leather is worn and just spouted a small tear...I just figured the heated seats would be a nice upgrade and I can get a pair of Gen 2 seats with perfect leather for $500.

RE: Gen 2 Seats swap into a Gen 1

The seat swap would be a nightmare. First, none of the connectors is the same, the power wires are not the same, the memory in the Gen 1 cars is controlled by the driver's seat module. In the Gen 2 cars, it is controlled by the driver's door module, which is not present in Gen 1 cars. The switches in the Gen 1 and Gen 2 cars are completely different. The door ajar switches go to the Gen 1's driver's seat module and in Gen 2, the driver's door ajar goes to the driver's door module, but the passenger's door ajar goes to the SCIL (Steering Column/Igniton/Lighting Module, which the Gen 1 cars don't even have. The driver's seat belt switch is connected to the warning chime module, which the Gen 2 cars don't have and the driver's seat belt switch is connected to the driver's seat module that the Gen 1 cars don't have a connection for. And the Gen 2 has the ability to connect to other modules through the SCP or Standard Corporate Protocol to get necessary information which Gen 1 cars do not have.

So, it would be a lot of work to get the Gen 2 seats to work in a Gen 1 car if you want everything to work as intended.

But they will bolt in! And if you just want the seats to go up and down and back and forth, it probably could be done.

Thanks MrJohn.....that was more info than I could have hoped for!I had already purchased the seats by the time you had answered--I picked up a mint set of front and back seats for $450--and considered the price of just the leather, I am going to try. Frankly, I don't see how the skins could be changed..the whole idea of the Gen 2 seats was to extend the bottom portion of the seat for better long trip comfort, but I do know an interior guy who is a real artist, and will first talk to him about swapping the skins; maybe trimming some of the bottom leather off would work, but if that doesn't work, I would be fine giving up the auto-glide features if that will get them in. Thank you everyone for you help.

I am going through this very same upgrade!

OK, I may have gotten ahead of myself by buying 1st and asking questions later... I came across a black on black Gen 2 Mark VII in a local junkyard with absolutely mint leather seats that I just had to buy when I saw them... the only problem is that I drive a Gen 1!!!

Now, being that the electronics are different I know Geno removed the seat cushioning and leather off the metal skeleton of the Gen2 seat & put that on the Gen1 seat's skeleton... but I dont see that it simply zippers off...

Geno, & anybody else who might have been crazy enough to do this... how did you do it?! GearFreak, how are you making progress here?

BTW I paid $350 for it all (including rear) so I really think it was a bit of a steal ;)
