Hey guys, my tranny rarely goes into first gear when I stop and sometimes it shifts hard into second and sometimes soft! sometimes it;s just nice and firm and chirps the tires like I like. These things aren't supposed to leave in second are they?? I plan on doin' the ol mercon v flush and filter change SOON should I also do the 1 2 accumulator? If so how much is it and how do I do it. THANKS!!

P.S. Had the car one week and I've already

got an Olds Aroura,a 5.9 dakota R/T and an old Supra turbo under my belt!!!
LOVE this car!!

If you haven't killed the trans yet you will soon with beating well running cars ;)

Your 1-2 spring is either busted, or the piston gets jammed in the bore.

Fix it today, or you'll be pushing the car tomorrow.

WOW! Really that serious huh? I thought it would start shuddering before I had to start pushin'!! Geez I won't have time to work on it til next weekend so I hope the ol' girl hangs! It does great cold. I found the R&R instructions in the tech section that should help alot...if my frontend doesn't come apart first! Gotta love sorting out the "new" cars!!

The 'shudder' is not a 1-2 accumulator symptom.

A unusually soft or unusually firm 1-2 shift is an indication of a 1-2 accumulator issue. On my '93 I noticed the shifts unusually firm at heavy throttle but OK at normal throttle. Upon inspection the lower 1-2 accumulator spring was broken. Since it may not be downshifting 2-1, it could be the accumulator piston as well.
