I think its my rims, I seriously do, but I can't rule out this stupid hub, is an OEM hub that much better that it would be less problematic?
Just for a little info I called Max at 5 Star and our price for a FOMOCO OEM hub is $76.31 plus shipping. Of course it has a 12/12 warranty. As a little backround I have been in all the major Bearing Mfg in the US who make this product. The last time I bought I went with BCA, and I would also go with Fomoco for the next round. Either one are the better quality.
"also the old hub (old new one) was seperated in the back. so I could see the bearings inside."
This doesn't bode well. There are supposed to be seals in here as these are greased for life from the factory.
hmmm, I had a one piece nut too, no 3 piece stuff, maybe I lost something? anyway I find that when I turn slowly it doesn't make the noise but its still doing it to this day, been busy to fix it anymore, I believe its my rims for some reason, I bought some grease to grease them but haven't had the desire to take it off again. I called that dude Max too, nice guy, he asked some questions tried to suggest some stuff and said I need a new nut everytime, didn't get nut with hub but oh well. Hopefully one day this will be resolvedI tried to take your advice Charlie. I went to Murray's but they didn't have the BCA hub. The one thay had was an SKF hub with a 2 year warranty. I checked, and at least the bearing was made in the US. I hope it's OK, it's on the car now and it makes no noise or vibration.
They also had a replacement nut. Of course, it is different than the original 3 peice nut. It's just a one piece crush nut. I hope that's not a problem now.
FWIW, I replaced my front hubs with OEM Ford parts from the dealer with new OEM Ford crush nuts. I also rented a torque wrench from Auto Zone as my personal wrench is not calibrated past 150 lb.ft. I recall seeing that the backside of my hubs were somewhat "open" as well because I could see bearings inside if I looked from the right angle. Can anyone actually verify that this is either normal or abnormal? I would have figured my OEM parts would be the best of the best, but maybe I am wrong...?
The clicking sound mine made prior to replacement disappeared and has not returned after they were replaced.
Since you notice the problem when turning, I wonder if the problem lies in your rear bearings as well. Unfortunately, those are a bit tougher to replace.
