Got hit from behind while stopped by pickup at 30mph, what should I check for?

I had to stop relatively rapidly on the Bay Bridge, guy behind me in a Nissan pickup (1999-2004, it was a newer body style Nissan Frontier) hit his brakes too late, smashed in to me at 25mph at least from the back.

His entire front grill was bent out of shape, his bumper sticking out from the edges of the car, since it was a pretty serious hit.

I came out of the car to assess my damage, and could not find any, save a few scratches on my rear bumper. Checked the oil tank, no leaks. Is there anything else I should check for? I had my foot on the brake and was at a complete stop at the time I was hit, should I get my brakes checked out?

We'll see what the body shop says, I'll probably replace the rear bumper and poly-urethane covering and that's about it for what I can think of now.

Since it was on the bridge, the cops were there in under two minutes, report will be available Monday, but the other guy was pretty much 100% at fault. I'm still amazed at the lack of damage to the car, this thing is a tank!

if he was indeed going 30mph then your car would be totalled, but since you didn't see any damage then you might be lucky. Either way keep the car and collect from the insurance. Your brakes should be fine... you can get an estimate on the spot for free since you're in cali.

his tires were screeching as he slammed into me, direct hit onto the back bumper, I'm pretty sure that he was going more than 20mph. I had a split-second to react, but the car in front of me was still there, so I pushed hard on the brake prior to the hit instead of trying to gas it.

although had the guy been driving a car whose bumper was just a tad bit higher, my rear-end would have been toast.

he was going 10 mph at impact. probably knocked some paint off your bumper, that's about it, right?

Same thing has happened to me a couple of times. Believe me, though, if he hit you at 30, your car would be totaled. I hit someone at 30 once, and totaled both cars. Hit my head on the windshield too.

I got hit from the back a few months ago, the guy was going 50Mph (ford pick up). He didnt see we were stopped at the light as he says.
