Greetings from Div 7 ET finals!

...checking in from the hotel...started this trip wednesday morning @ 10:30am.

the Peanut truck finally made its first pass Thursday morning.

11.86 @ 116 mph, with plenty more in it.

The very first pass. we buzzed first gear to see how hard and how long it would pull...it was still pulling when it banged the rev limiter at 7000 rpms, and we shifted.

...but it's tuned really fat right now...all in all, we're thrilled. This little peanut truck rocks...it should run about a 11.70 or so with the current conditions. The air aint so good...everyone is about a 1/10th off...this is pretty much a 11.60 or faster truck. With some proper tuning, I dont see why we cant eek out some 11.40's at 117-118 mph.

Friday was a complete rain out. a storm moved in over-night-massive lightning storms, and all, and by 1:00pm, they cancelled today. The schedule was Thursday test-n-tune and first round Jackpot. Friday was supposed to be jackpot's eliminations, but with the rain out, they cancelled jackpot, and they'll run the main ET event saturday as planned.

Good news is, Brenda got passed the first round of jackpot last night, and was supposed to finish up today, but with the rain out, they announced all jackpot winners in first round will get double their money back...first round of competition, and this truck already made us money!

If the weather clears up tomorrow, we'll get to start the ET event.

over 800 cars...320+ in our class alone.

anyway...here's a video of the little Peanut making it's first pass...
I'll update you all more tomorrow.

NEW BEST ET

11.669 @ 116.59 mph, with a 1.618 60-foot.

well...we're home. What a weekend. left wednesday @ 10.30am, Tommy got a blow-out on the trailer at the "maze" where you NEVER want to get a flat. spent 2 hours rounding up a pair of trailer tires in the east bay, and finally hit the road at 1:30. Got to the track @ 6:00pm, and didnt leave until 12:30pm today...6 hours later, we were back at the shop unloading the trailer.

The good news is, I think(still waiting for official results) our team finished #1.

we had the one time run yesterday, and then 1st round elims today...and this morning, the air was GOOD! Horsepower could be tasted in the morning air...and the results were obvious by watching all the competitors breaking out (going under) their dial-ins...what would we dial? Who knows...with so feww passes on the motor, the jetting being set up super-fat(rich) and the motor just now breaking in...I had no clue.

it ran a 11.740, so I dialed a 11.73, and hoped, if we were running quick, so would the other guy...

they lined Brenda up against a little Toyota pick-up truck(modified, of course, with a big-block Chevy, blah-blah-blah...just a fiberglass body on a tube chassis) running 9.60's

she went red.... barely too. -0.025(.475)...so she wisely ran it out the back door.

11.66 @ 116.59 mph....and that was after staging really deep(reason for the close red-light)...

Tommy also went red 1st round... he was closer. he had a -.006 red light(.494), and our weekenbd was over.

We cant wait to get this truck back to our own track, tuned right, and ready to play...I see 11.50's @ 117+ mph in our future.

RE: Greetings from Div 7 ET finals!

Nothing more redeeming with a redlight than a new record ET. :D

RE: Greetings from Div 7 ET finals!

Bill...yes, it's ok...mostly because it's a race motor...as long as you dont flog it way up into the rpm range passed it's limit. remember...it's not like it's going to run for 150k+ miles...it will idle, then be put through the RPM range for about 11 1/2 seconds, then idle.

most race motor builders call it like this:

if you build it, and it makes a full pass down the track, and comes back fine...the motor is done. Once parts seat, and compression is steady, then it's "break in" is done. Most of them get broke in on the dyno...some do it in the shop, in the vehicle...others make a few easy passes. The motors that are built "tight" need some TLC at first(13.5:1 motors, etc)...this motor was put together loose to promotoe longevity, and have a lower static compression.

JP...you're right...but knowing that a trans-brake goes against all logic the way you use it, I cant blame her for a red light...she rolled it in a couple inches further than she should when she staged, and the red bulb was the result...doesnt matter...I never get mad at her for a red light...at least she was trying, right?

My old saying about the starting line being like a gun fight...better to get a shot off, then to take a bullet before your gun ever leaves its holster.

That's an awesome way to look at red light! I'll have to rememer that so I don't kick myself so hard when it happens.

Congrats on the pass it looked good! And big congrats to the team on the finish!!

Tiff...the other saying is "you shot a hole in your foot"...that's when you follow with the above saying...

here's 2 different time slips...first slip, the starting line was awesome, but the air wasnt so good, making us a bit fat(rick) in the carb jetting: Note the awesome 60-foot time

this was the :run for the money: we were going to enter, but didnt...we were going to dial a 11.74
we would have run, with the perfect pass, and a .012 reaction time.

this next slip shows what happens when you nail your shift points, and the tune-up is closer for the conditions. We havent touched the carb jetting yet...it's WAY fat...86 jets, when it should really only have 80's or so.

60 foot wasnt good, and she staged pretty deep, which is why the 60 foot was slower, and the reaction time was too early.

all in all, we are very pleased with the Peanut truck. It was an awesome build up, and we plan to do very well with it.

RE: Greetings from Div 7 ET finals!

After that great package, I don't think I would have changed anything... unless it was going to hurt itself that is.

That Peanut of your's looks to be awesome competitor... props to the builders and, best of luck to the driver!

I'm looking forward to the coming stories :D

RE: Greetings from Div 7 ET finals!

well, we changed it because it was running way too fat(rich)...the carb was already jetted from the last owner, so we left it alone to establish a baseline. This truck had only 4 passes on it when she clicked off the .012 light, and the 11.74 was just an educated guess I made, based on the two prior runs...it was her first actual correct transbrake release, so the .012 was a surprise, but a welcome one at that.

we will be hitting the TEST N TUNE Saturday night, and wringing it out to see what it has in it. I suspect 11.50's, consistently.

God I love fat tires.
