Half Shaft Removal

Is there one side that is easier to remove the half shaft on then the other?

Thanks!

I was able to remove the center section without removing either half shaft from the car. By removing the mounting bolts and the exhaust I was able to do it. It was tight getting them out of the gear carrier but it worked.

It was on Doms car so I didn't care! j/k We couldn't get the retaining nut off of the outer half shaft on either side, even with a puller, it was just rusted on and we didn't have a long enough cheeter pipe to really put torque on it. We didn't want to slice the nut off with a grinder either because we didn't have another nut and he had work in the morning =) It was tight but I got it out and back in, worked just fine. I also did the removal pretty much alone as well due to some chinese food giving Dom a huge headache for about an hour. I don't suggest doing it that way but it is possible!

I guess with both upper arms disconnnected, and swung out you might get enough clearance. Makes me want to go and try it ;)

I didn't touch the upper arms, just rotated the diff slightly once I unbolted the mounting points. Between rotating the whole gear carrier and compressing the CV's slightly there was JUST enough room to get them out. It wasn't fun....but it worked. I DON'T recommend doing it this way!

For the record I won't be doing any of those things... :D
But I thought it would be nice to give my mechanic any tips to save him some time...

let's see. so far he's asked about the suspension, and the differential.

At Carlisle, I now expect to see the world's first 4x4, lifted Mark with Air-lockers.

I just envisioned a row of tap handles across the rear bumper..

they featured that on an episode of Top Gear. it was awesome.
