RE: Hey Apple Fans G5 has come!

Bah..... both Intel and Apple are IN trouble.

AMD has a new processor out, the Opteron, its a server chip, it can run both 32 and 64 bit code natively and it smokes the ##### out of anything Intel has to offer at the current moment. Which in reality means: Companies save money, they can use their current 32 bit OS now and switch to a 64 Bit OS once they become available without buying new servers.

In September, AMD will release the Athlon64 for the mainstream desktop to replace the XP line, and from current benchmarks, AMD will have Intel beat until Intel releases a brand new core. Mainly this: 1. A 2.2 ghz Athlon64 will run about level with a 4.2 ghz P4 in gaming and smoke it totally in office/3d apps. Aslong as AMD does the marketing right, Intel is in trouble. The Athlon64 can also run 32 and 64 bit code natively.

Microsoft has promised a 64-bit Windows by the end of this year.

G5: Overrated, It has a 64 bit CPU, but no 64 bit OS, what the point then?.

dont get me wrong im big amd supporter, last intel chip i bought was a P2 400 but amd is getting its butt whipped. the New g5 is king of chips right now... and the mac os is still light years ahead of anything microsoft. Lotta big "if's" and its 64 bit for the extra bandwidth, and the 1ghz fsb helps alot. im pretty sure it will be a year or two before intel could match RAW MIPS power that the new g5 has.

RE: Hey Apple Fans G5 has come!

Well, i wouldnt believe all the hype Apple is putting forth, we have to wait 'till we see some reviews on it. Its almost embarassing for Intel now, a chip half the speed (Opteron) can smoke their top o' the line. We will have to wait until atleast the fall of next year to see a 64 bit anything from Intel. A 64 bit is more efficient because it can handle more data per clock cycle making it more efficient than a 32 bit.

As for Apple smoking Intel, Yep and so is AMD, the current winner AMD's Opteron is breaking world records for server and 3d benchmarks.

AMD Opteron-
Highest recorded 2P and 4P SPECweb® 99 scores, breaking for the first time the 10,000 barrier on a 4P system
Highest recorded 2P and 4P SPECint®_rate2000 scores
Best scaling 1P to 2P to 4P SPECfp®_rate2000 scores
Highest recorded 4P SPECweb 99_SSL scores
Highest recorded 1P, 2P, and 4P SPECjbb® 2000 scores

somebody needs to get off the amd bandwagon, i havent seen this amd chip out yet, nor do i think it will be out anytime soon.

RE: Hey Apple Fans G5 has come!

Apples are infact better for video editing and photoshop, they have a superior OS to MS, I dont think so, stability and reliability are about the same for XP and OSX. If they only made more games for the Mac, well the world would be a different place for MS today, but the PC is the superior platform IMO, you can just do more, Linux is gaining ground fast and MS is considering it a serious competitor, thats why MS bought a license to develop Linux.......... :)

Its already out Pete..... Opteron has been out for 2 months, Athlon64 will be out in September.

Please keep in mind that the Athlon64 tests were conducted on beta hardware and server class mobos. The anadtech Opteron tests are on final hardware that you can purchase now.

Rumor has it, that Apple is considering using Opterons, Sun is also considering Opterons. At the moment, any large company that is serious about their server performance is either strongly considering or using Opterons.

Dont get me wrong, right now Intel is ahead of AMD in the desktop market, but it could all change in Septermber when the Athlon64 hits the streets, well have to wait and see.
