I bought a HID kit at auction along with a relay setup to run them directly off the battery, by just plugging the relay setup into one low beam plug
They fired up and warmed up very nicely - I am glad to have light. I replaced my housings a couple years ago, so they are still nice and clear.
Once the HID's were on for a few minutes I was really impressed with the amount of light that they produced.
Tomorrow i'm going to modify the multi-function switch so that I get all 4 lights on when I flick the brights, and disable the "check exterior lights" message.
However, I do have a question for those of you running the stock HID's and those that have run the retro fit kits.
I always assumed and was told that HID's run cooler than the halogen bulbs (which also helped preserve the housings). After I had the bulbs on for 5+ minutes I noticed that the front of the lens was warm, and if I touched the housing right above the bulb it was very hot! I knew it was like this with the halogens, but didn't expect it with the HID's - is it normal for the HID's to produce heat like that?
...the kit is 35w and 5000k
