HID's or Supercharger?

I just got a slightly crashed 96 with 66K miles that I am rebuilding to replace my 95 with 150K miles.
I am not a drag racer and this is my daily driver for my 90 mile a day commute on the PA Turnpike.
I can spend enough money to either put on a supercharger or HID's, I am not sure which way to go.
Any thoughts?

RE: HID's or Supercharger?

I'd go with the headlights. The supercharger on a daily driver seems like a waste. Being better able to see the deer and the potholes, that's the ticket.

RE: HID's or Supercharger?

I don't know how the two got on the same playing field Doug, but if I hear you right, I gotta go with the HIDs.

You buy the supercharger and I'll trade you for a set of HIDs. }(

Seriously, the supercharger will leave you grinning ear to ear everytime you get on it, but the HIDs will leave you grinning ear to ear everytime you drive at night.

RE: HID's or Supercharger?

Ya I suppose you guys are right! I will probably go with the HID's, I sure wish I could drive a Mark with HID's I think I have only seen one on the road with HID's.
My 96 project car needs a radiator, so I will put in a Cobra radiator to make more room for the supercharger later!

RE: HID's or Supercharger?

Buy the supercharger. Then win enough to buy the HID's beating the guy's that can't be beat with a Lincoln.

Keith

Only use the brakes to stop and get gas.

RE: HID's or Supercharger?

that's the car from erepairables ? isn't it ? If so it's beautiful, I was gonna look into it closer ... lol

yeah, f... IT, get the blower.

RE: HID's or Supercharger?

I got the 96 from a place called Gary's auto in Iowa. It has 66k miles and is silver/grey. Is that what you were thinking of?
It only! needs a hood, grille, lights, core support, radiator and air bags.
I wonder if it is worth it, I will have $5k in it when I am done. I could have build a super motor for my 95 that has 150k miles with that money. I think I have already repaired or replaced everything else in the 95 that could break.
Maybe I will look for a core motor next and take the next couple of years to build the motor of my dreams.

RE: HID's or Supercharger?

That's the car. It was looking great, the damage is not that bad.

Let me know if you want out of this car ...

RE: HID's or Supercharger?

The body and interior is in great shape and it really does only have 66K miles. It appears that little maintenance has been done or needed as it has the original plug wires and although I heven't yet checked, I wouldn't doubt the original plugs.
I just received the cobra radiator, will mate the Mark fan to it. Delivery should be today on a huge trans cooler from an F350 truck I got brand new off ebay for $40!
It looks like original air system but it doesn't leak.
Jim (bigbadwolf) from this forum is bringing me most of the crash parts I need from West Tennessee, I am in Pittsburgh.
I bought an air bag computer from ebay for $18. I need the air bags and all front lights yet,
I don't plan to have it on the road until the end of the summer. I will attempt to sell my 95 to cover most of the cost.

That is such a clean install. I would think the damn thing is stock if I didn't know these cars.

Thanks!

RE: HID's or Supercharger?

niiiiice...I need those silicone sleeves and heavy duty clamps! Where did you buy them from! Mine keeps blowing off when I punch it and i get a vacuum leak (siliconed now with reg hose clamps). I also haven't put a nice lip on my fiberglass tube either, for the clamp, but I will on the next one.
Also I didnt know the newer style radiator covers actually say Mark VIII on them! mine is all blank. Looks like ill be salvage yard hunting again..are they the same size? The cutouts for winshield wiper fluid and headlights look to be the same postion...

Nice and clean with no mod to the hood....I like...

hehe, it's been done forever now ... couple shots from

RE: HID's or Supercharger?

Sorry guys, I cannot tell you how much it all cost, you would ban me from coming here

BUT to supercharge a 2nd gen car it would cost about $3,000 plus tuning. That is if the car is in tip top mechanical condition.

I don't see how you could blow off an intake tube with no boost ? The lack of barb might be the cause though.

I buy all my clamps and hoses from www.hightempsilicone.com , they have the biggest selection and best prices, not even mentioning the service. Not everything is listed on the website though, best to contact directly.

The front cover is totally different on 2nd gens, and I don't think it would fit, even with some cutting. Plus, I don't really like these ...
