Just finished up our Fordchip.com dyno weekend..

I pulled 220RWHP/228RWTQ on a stock 97 Mark.. not too bad i think.. best part is the driveability fixes.. no more puilled timiing when the traction control kicks on, nice firm shifts, and can grab rubber finally in 1-2 shifts...Good stuff!!

RE: Hit the Rollers this weekend...

final

it should pull a few more once i change the fuel filter.. no matter how much fuel he threw at it, it still went way lean up top..

i will go make another pull or 2 at the shop once i change it this weekend...

base pull was 203hp...

RE: Hit the Rollers this weekend...

Those are good numbers considering no mods. A stock 1st gen Mark VIII off the showroom was usually in the 205 to 210 hp range. My 95 LSC with a Superchip and only muffles pulled 228 four years ago on a hot day 96 degree July day.

well, if you call it a mod, i am also w/o mufflers. I am very happy with the way it turned out. makes the car alot more fun :)

I meant I had only the mufflers replaced with a set of Borla Turbo mufflers while still using the rest of the stock system at the time. I've since added a 2.5" exhaust system with XX-pipe and very light weight mufflers as well as a 900CFM MAF and a couple of other smaller things. Haven't been back to the dyno yet but I'm probably in the the "240-ish" range or higher. :)

RE: Hit the Rollers this weekend...

i think thats one of the next steps for me as well. Exhaust.
that and gears...

Did you get a 2.5" kit or make it yourself (or a shop)?
i am probably going to buy a series of mandrel bends and make my own...

RE: Hit the Rollers this weekend...

I got the XX-pipe and mufflers from LMS (Geno) and found a shop that would "bend" me a 2.5" system. It sounds awsome. I haven't run it thru the quarter on the strip with the new system but I picked up nearly 2 mph at the 1/8-mile track near me from 75 to 77 mph. There was a slight lowend torque loss as my 60-foot time increased slightly and depending on how wild you plan of going with your mods, if I were to do it over, I would have gone with 2.25" pipes instead. Gears would really help me now :). Also 2.25" would have been cheaper and easier to fit. The 2.5" system donesn't "rub" but it took a lot to get it there.

Bill, I think that's the first time I've seen/heard someone admit their exhaust setup may be too big.:)

Yeah, it depends on what horsepower you're shooting for, if you are going for 300 rwhp and up, then bigger is diffenitly better. If you don't plan on going too wild (250-ish or so), then probably 2.25" is plenty. The stock system probably "kinks" down to under 2" in a couple of places. Like I said there was a slight off the line loss (torque) which showed up in my 60-foot times but mid and top end range are stronger. Gears are what really wakes up a 32-valve DOHC motor like in a Mark VIII.
