Holy S***!!!

No, the car is entirely stock except for the installation of a 98 tranny. I have installed the Bosch quad tipped plat plugs way back when I first bought the car....2001, I THINK! They have performed very well fo me...average about 25-26 on the road at 70mph...this is running from home (Maryland) to upstate NY and back. About 18 around town if I can keep my foot off the floor mats under the gas pedal! Installed at about 89,000, now at 135,000.

Oh yeah, I had to pull #7 plug the other week to replace a coil... plug came right out without a hitch!

I guess I should buy a torque wrench asap and check my plugs before I have any problems.

A torque wrench is virtually a necessity with an aluminum block and heads.

I learned that back in the 70's with my motorcycles.

I looked up the shear strength of aluminum vs. steel and it's downright scary. Overtorque them plugs and be prepared for the worst.

You know, I would have to guesstimate about 20hp all told (tune / K&N / silencer removal), however as was mentioned above, it is the drivability. It really feels like a completely different car. No more sluggishness on tip in, crisp shifts, overall just a "tighter" feeling to the drivetrain. It is infinately more enjoyable to drive. I wonder why Lincoln would so hamper its own vehicles with electronic nannies an rob not only the original owners of these cars of these improvements, but also themselves of better reviewed cars?

Fred, the '93-'98 Mark VIII was a very different breed of Lincoln that used to be. Don't forget that a "LINCOLN" 'was' your grandfather's type of car. They couldn't get rid of that mentality all at once. Even after they came out with the '93-96 versions, it was just TOO much car for the regular Lincoln owner so in '97, they toned it down and discontinued it altogether after the '98.

Even the original "Hot Rod Lincoln" wasn't a Lincoln, but a Ford!
