Hooray for stupid people!

Well, I had just filled up my tank and finished picking up a pizza for myself and my best friend whose dad passed away on Wednesday. I was driving down the road towards his house when this girl in a Nissan Xterra turned, full-throttle directly into my driver-side door.

She managed to push my across the left lane, across the right lane, across the right hand lane and about 10 feet off of the main road, onto the road she was turning to.

Looking at my car, it's most likely totaled. The new body panels, the new paint, possibly straightening out the body is probably going to be well over the $3500 that the car is valued at. I'm most definitely going to be keeping it though, and either whatever I can over to the '96 or... well, I don't know. But the car will live, either in body or spirit.

And the kicker?

The girl that hit me was either 15 or 16, I'm not sure which, but I do know that she didn't have a license.

You are ok right?

I mean, you're posting, so we know your head and fingers work at least... :D

Bring it to Carlisle... :D
we'll have a winner for "worst in show"... or "best in show"...

whichever you'd prefer... :D

Yeah. I think the only thing hurt was my pride. For a fat guy, I've got ninja reflexes when I have to. In the quarter of a fraction of a second between when I knew she was going to hit me and when she hit me, I had my belt off and was over halfway into the passenger seat. I knew she was going to hit me in the driver door, and I wasn't sure how strong those doors are. Luckily, our Mark VIIIs were built when cars were still made of metal. haha

Edit:
Called 911 and the cops, firefighters and EMTs all showed up. They could tell that I was a car guy because while the girl and her boyfriend were off talking to everybody, I was going over my car with a fine toothed comb, checking for any other dents, dings, scrapes, whatever. All of the men and women in uniform could tell that I was distraught, and most of 'em came over to ask me if I was okay. When I said "yeah, I'm fine, not even a little sore." They all looked at me and said, "I could tell you were fine physically. I meant mentally." haha

Sorry to hear man. :frown: When we see something like this on here, all the rest of our mechanical problems, drivetrain issues, and electrical gremlins all of a sudden seem somewhat trivial.

Hopefully you can restore her for the right price. Body panels with matching paint already would definitely be a plus although that is always easier said than done. The best thing you can do at this point may be to part the vehicle out and restore the life of more than one Mark VIII out there that needs it. There are still plenty of them out there in junkyards and abandoned fields that need a body panel here, a trunk lid there, a hood here, and a bumper there.

I guess it's all destiny man. :frown: At least you still have the 96.

So, I assume the police were there etc, what happened?

Those pics are awful... :frown:

Well, everybody showed up because since the first lady who stopped called 911. The firefighters quarantined her car because it was leaking all kinds of fluids everywhere. haha she ended up getting a fat stack of tickets (and when I say fat stack, it looked like at least 4 or 5). Both officers on scene told me that she was 100% at fault, which I already knew, but it's always more comforting to know that the police report knows it, too.

I distinctly remember hearing the cop tell her that she "might have another chance at a license in a few years when she turns 18." Her mom told me that her dad was on his way; he'd been out of town for some reason. My guess is that her mom let her take the car out behind her dad's back (since he was out of town). I remember hearing the girl say "my dad's gonna kill me," and hearing her mom say the same thing.

So, I'm pretty sure someone's gonna kill her.

Worst freaking part of it for me is that Carlisle is in two and a half weeks. Yeah, I'd still be pissed if this was after Carlisle, but being this close to it? Freakin' insult to injury.

I'll be back to talk more about it tomorrow after work. I tried called both of my managers (multiple times) to see if I could possibly take a sick day tomorrow since I've got a lot to get done because of this uh... "female dog." Of course, neither of them answered and neither of them bothered to call me back.

Hang in there man. As stupid and repetitive as it may sound, at least YOU are ok. I had to part with my 91 Town Car this January when I managed to put her underneath the back side of a flat-bed trailer in icy conditions. If it wasn't for the big body and REAL metal on these cars like you have already stated yourself, I wouldn't be here right now to talk about it.

Cars can be replaced, people can't, even as much of a unexperienced "female dog" driver as she is. I'm not going to Carlisle this year either. Let's make a deal here. You are going to repair or replace that Lincoln before next year and I'll see you there next year. Maybe we can park next to each other. :)

The Carlisle curse again?

Oh Patrick, I'm glad you're OK. So sorry about everything! Those pics are horrid!

This is going to sound really stupid or depressing or something, but it's the truth. That car was all I had. That car was my life. That car was essentially my firstborn son. And for the kind of money that I make and the kind of money that I'm going to be getting from her insurance company, I'm not going to be able to fix her for a while. It's easily 7 or 8 grand worth of body work. :(

Man, I'll bet that girl was texting and driving like I see all these damn people doing these days. Nothing gets me more irate than this new trend.

I agree! I have seen studies that claim it is as deadly as drunk driving. I rarely even talk on the phone while I am driving. It is more annoying to me than anything.

Guess this will be a lesson to her....hopefully! That stack of tickets should keep her off the road until she gets married - at least! My question is how her father is going to pay you for your car???? His insurance sure ain't gonna pay seeing how she didn't even have a license.

I see a lawsuit in your future. You will have to sue for over and above what your un-insured motorist clause doesn't.

Well, I did overhear one of the cops telling her that she might have another chance at a license when she turns 18.

Well, I called Allstate today on break at work to file a claim with them, and they told me that going by the story (they don't have a police report yet), they're siding 100% with me. Then, as much as I didn't want to have to, I called Geico just to make my statement to them, followed up by "Allstate will be in contact with you soon."

Geico (and I can't believe this) told me that they accept liability for the accident. If it turns out that they WON'T cover it, I've got $50,000 worth of uninsured motorist coverage. Unfortunately, though, I think that the car is totaled. Since the damages almost definitely exceed the $3500 that the car is worth, I'll probably only get a check for $3500. That wouldn't even cover a new Mark VIII.

I see a lawsuit in your future. You will have to sue for over and above what your un-insured motorist clause doesn't.

I'm going to be talking to my granddad tomorrow; he knows more about everything than he should, so he'll know if it's worth filing a suit or not. As of now, I'm thinking "child neglect." The mother knowingly let her take the car out without a license and she got into an accident. That right there sounds like child neglect to me.

Now, I'm not entirely sure that she doesn't have a license, I just seriously think she doesn't. There was no licensing information listed for her on the information exchange report (and the police fill in the license info), and she was handed quite a few tickets. I know that one was bound to be for general reckless driving, and another for failing to yield the right of way, but it definitely looked like she had more than two tickets.

I kill people way younger then 15 at least 2 or 3 times a week... :p

I thought you were implying something else. hahaha

Glad you are ok. So sorry about your ride. Real downer!

Seriously. Thanks for the condolences, Bill. (and everyone)
