How does my tranny fluid look to you? (pic)

Here's a pic of fresh fluid next to what I just drained from my tranny today. The tranny fluid is obviously darker, but fortunately there are no particulates in it.

Does the fluid in my tranny looks like it needs to be changed? I only got 10-15K miles out of it.

Seeing how OEM recomendations are 20K service intervals, with your modded setup I would change it.

What's your normal transmission temperature?

Not sure...don't have a gauge.

But the carbon fiber lockup discs in the TC are the culprit. They are indeed doing a fine job of fully locking up, but a side effect is that there can be massive heat spikes.

I'll be putting in some Amsoil ATF this time...weapon of last resort and all.

Thanks to all for the input.

Put a 40k gwv trans cooler and a temp gauge and you will have better control of your temps along with knowing what they actually are.

take a sip of each of them , the stuff on the left wont taste as burnt as the stuff on the right! i would change it, it doesnt look horrible, but its obvious the difference between the two glasses.

That's to be expected and what I told you would happen when I had to ease off the lockups for you. Just keep the fluid changed and you should be alright.

He's already got a 40K cooler. The TC he has is for a much higher hp vehicle. When he ordered it he was planning on a turbo install so he ordered what he needed to survive it. Problem is he's still pretty much stock and so the TC when it locked would almost stall the engine. So I had to back it off in his programming. Now it is slipping like the stock programming and creates heat and the darker fluid. It won't hurt the TC since it's CF.

Some of the color also could just be the CF material in the fluid, not necessarily burnt. Gotta love that 40k cooler, i know it works great on both of my cars. Very happy with it!

Yes, what he said.

I pretty much expected this scenario. What I didn't expect was for Maloof at The Palms to swindle my family out of half a million bucks...ergo I don't have the money I was expecting for the turbo install.
