How does theThanks icon work

OK, I clicked it but I knew how to do that. I see I have thank yous under my username but it stays for some period of time and then the Thanks under my Username disappears.
There are thanks on the right side of the top of all your posts, there isn't anything by your name....not that I've seen.
The "Thanks:" spot (right under your post count) is how many times you've thanked people. The "Thanked" spot is how many times people have thanked you and in how many posts.
If you get thanked by 10 people in one post and 1 in another, it should read "Thanked 10 times in 2 posts."
