How much would you pay?

To all the mark viii owners out there. How much would you pay for a 93 mark viii with low mileage. now when i say low i mean low, say around 20,000 miles. I know what the kbb says for the car, but just want to see what you guys think before i decide to purchase it and what is a fair price. The tranny is acting up on the car and the interior is in rough condition. The exterior is alright, the car mostly sat for the last few years. Thanks

RE: How much would you pay?

The interior in "rough" condition and the tranny "acting up" are enough to wipe out any pluses for the low mileage. I'd go no higher than $100.00 below book. Now.... "Book" ~ In THIS case meaning what a private buyer pays a private seller. Go to http://www.kbb.com and you can find private-seller-to-private-buyer numbers therein. Don't expect to pay "dealer price" (or) wholesale, simply because you are NOT a dealer nor a wholesale dealer. Under "Condition" on kbb.com, I'd enter fair.

RE: How much would you pay?

yea you should describe the car a little more than that. If the car has 20k miles and it was sitting somewhere collecting dust getting abused... then its no better than a 60-80k mk8 that has been taken care of. With the probs you described... no more than 3500.

Good Question !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its not hard switching those ODO's. Check for suspension wear and tear to be sure.

RE: How much would you pay?

all very good questions, the same questions i have. The guy wants 4200 and won't move from that price. it was a trade in to a mercedes dealer and it has been sitting for a few years. the interior is rough from maybe being out in the sun all day long for a few years, it looks like bad dust collection and sun exposure on the dash and doors. the tranny makes think of the neutral saftey switch that i changed out before on my car. the engine sounds fine, and runs fine, the air bags work fine i even went back a few days ago to see if they holded up after i turned off the air ride switch and it did. so no leaks.

RE: How much would you pay?

Personally I would recommend you putting it on a lift to see her bottom sides. As I am not familiar as to what your local has for rust conditions, you could also use this as an indicator as to how virgin this car is, especially being that you are paying a somewhat premium price for this year car. Look for all the signs as to this car being an unmolested car.

RE: How much would you pay?

If it's been sitting on a lot for 3 years, there's a reason. Offer him 3k if the car checks out.

I'd rather have a 100k mile motor that's had oil changes every 3k, then a 20k motor that's been test driven once a month for 3 years with no oil changes.

RE: How much would you pay?

I hate to break this to you guys but you can roll back the OD in about an hour in the Gen 1's. Not tough at all.

RE: How much would you pay?

If you suspect the odo reading is inaccurate, check the pedals and floormats for wear (but note that both the pedal pads and floormats are easily replaced). If the seats are worn it probably has way more than 20k on it.
