is a hub conversion more trouble then its worth? i have wheels 5.x4.50 i had on a differnt car. if i did a cobra hub swap i could use them. is it worth my time and money or should i just get new wheels?

Yeah there would be more of a posibility to find used wheels thats for sure if i was desiding i wanted somthinmg differnt. would i be able to use junk yard mustang parts to do the swap? would wheel adapters work instead if i were to have the right offset?

VERY worth the time and the little effort IMHO. I'd do it JUST for the better brakes, they make a world of difference and my car stops with so little effort now that I barely have to press the brakes!

Thats not a bad idea :) Are you trying to say my rotors aren't sexy? :(

To post a link you have to use the "IMG" URL. Just "preview" the post before you post it and try that.

Hey guys, I'm new here and just bought a green '95 Mark VIII w/59k miles. Love the car but am dissapointed I cant put Mustang wheels on it. Please tell me more about the hub conversion. What parts are needed and how hard is it to do?. Lots of wrecking yards in my area and I find Mustangs all the time (usually 4 cyl models). If I get mine done, I could probably hook you guys up with the parts as well (time permitting). Thanks.

Destroyer....based on your other thread, you don't want to change the brakes. Basically you just need 1999 Cobra front/rear hubs. Also get 95 M8 rear bearings to change at the same time you change the rear hubs.

Than, if you want to use the stock M8 brakes/rotors, take the rotors down to your local machine shop and have them re-drill the lug pattern to match the new hubs.

Thanks for the reply J. Do the hubs have to be for a '99 Cobra or can they be for any 94-04 Mustang?. Is there a difference?. Also, can I use a set of Mustang rotors and still use the M8 calipers?. I really appreciate this info. I'd like to get this stuff done over the weekend or next. Thanks again.

Negative....99 Cobra is the only direct swap as far as I know. They are cheap anyways...unless you're thinking of buying used(god I hope not!).

Mustang rotors aren't any better, waste of money unless you get the Cobra rotors, but then you need the Cobra calipers because of a larger(longer) caliper bracket to clear the rotors.

Let me ask you....do you want to do it RIGHT or CHEAP? :)

And do you want to just get Mustang rims or do you want better brakes too?

Well, I'm not looking to upgrade the brakes right now, later on maybe. Right now I'm looking to do this on the cheap just to improve the looks and handling. I was trying to find out if I can use Mustang rotors instead of having the M8 ones drilled. Figure I may as well save the trip to the machine shop plus the car feels like it needs front ones anyway. I can get Mustang rotors (4) from ebay for $120 or so, I bet it wouldn't be a whole lot less to have the old ones drilled.

Depending upon shop hourly rate, I've heard of rotors being redrilled for $20 each.

Make sure there is enough chamfer on the back side of the bolt holes and that the rotors seat against the hub face. Don't ask me how I know.

Would non Cobra Mustang rotors work with the M8 calipers?. I'd rather just do that and avoid the machine shop if possible. Thanks.

Thats a good question. Not sure if the offset is different on the Mustang rotors. Heres a suggestion....go to your local parts store and have them pull ONE front M8 rotor and ONE front mustang rotor off the shelf, open them and compare. The hub portions MUST be identical or they will not sit inside the caliper properly, and obviously the outer diameter needs to be the 11.2 inches or whatever a M8 rotor is.

Well if someone can get the measurements on the offset of a stock mark rotor I have a full set of regular mustang rotors sitting at my house I can get the measurements off of those for you to compare to.

I just did a search of this forum...lo and behold.

Rotor offset or wheel offset?

Thats a cool chart, confusing but cool. Whats the "hex"?
