Huge Off idle bog??

Thought I'd get some opinions before I tear the intake off..

It's a '93, all stock, new plugs/wires, filters, no CE light etc. When you press the accelerator off of idle about 1/2 way, the engine sputters for like a second, then takes off. When it does respond, power is very good, this bogg is not normal. The idle rpm drops to 400 RPM occasionally, but the computer catches it and smooth idle is restored. Stuck IMRCs would be my guess. Could it be O2 sensors? Did a seafoam treatment, some improvement but no glory. It smoked quite a bit, but nothing like my '94 did on Seafoam. What do you guys think?

What did you do with the MAF?

Doubt it but try unplugging the IMRC solenoid and see if you notice a difference.

RE: Huge Off idle bog??

Cut, ported and polished MAF was a dead dog.. put back in the stock one. Waste of time.. I had to learn this myself. This problem became most noticeable when I put the stock MAF back although I'm sure it's sealed well, and was a good MAF to start with. Man at times, this '93 is downright scary.. runs like a bat out of hell, moves sideways shifting into second etc., other times boggs so badly just makes the typical waaaaaahhhhhh sound. I guess fuel could be the problem, not sure if fuel pump has been replaced in it's 165K life. Dumped a pint of pure Acetone into 1/4 tank of 93 octane last night, and thought I'd end up in jail, it ran so darn well. Buzzed it way up high numerous times, hit the rev limiter hard, ran it beyond 100 in 2nd gear etc. The previous owner was an older lady who probably never opened it up. I still think it's IMRC related. I might have finally broke the IMRC's loose last night, but weather is not good (rain) today to continue testing.

RE: Huge Off idle bog??

FWIW, I disconnected my IMRC solenoid to help determine if I wanted to do an IMRC delete with the new intake. This means the IMRCs were open full time. The result was unmistakeably clear I did not want to delete the IMRCs.

RE: Huge Off idle bog??

>my car does this too but only on cold mornings untill it gets a little heat in the motor.

My car does it 24/7.

My car does the same thing. If you fix the problem tell me :).

Glen, HAVE YOU CHECKED FOR A VACUUM LEAK YET?

RE: Huge Off idle bog??

Did you verify that your IMRC shafts are turning when you shut the engine off?

remember I pointed at the end of that little shaft behind the coolant crossover..
told you to look closely at the end of that shaft while someone turns your motor off...

The shaft should rotate slightly when the engine vacuum goes to ZER0 when the engine is killed?

did you do that?

RE: Huge Off idle bog??

Why do you do that?

You ask questions, over and over.. people answer your questions, and you ignore what they say?

Seriously Glen.. JEEEZ!

You make it very difficult to help you, because one would normally assume that you'd already checked the suspect problem area that were mentioned to you.

So I've been moving on thinking about "other things" that might solve your problem, yet.... you haven't even taken the time to check the "LAST THINGS" we talked about.

I guess your waiting for someone to "leap from the internet and nail your problem" without you actually having to GO OUTSIDE and CHECK?

RE: Huge Off idle bog??

when I have time I will do it.Sound Good

RE: Huge Off idle bog??

Also.. I think because you parked your car so close to mine last friday night that my car has "caught the BOB BUG" from you.

It probably jumped over to my car when we were in the burnout box...because when the light turned green, it wasn't YOUR CAR that bogged, it was mine.

GEE FREAKING THANKS GLEN!

can ya keep your car kooties to yourself!

RE: Huge Off idle bog??

I'm running two steps colder with no problems before now.

I do have a "goofy battery"...though.

Glen is probably due for a plug change.

Just remembered that I put a fresh set of plugs in my car 5000 miles ago when we did the engine/tranny swap.
