I finally bit the bullet...

Well, I finally dropped my car off at a transmission shop, as some of you know, I've been without 3rd gear and overdrive for a few months, and as a result, I've been unable to go far because of it. That in itself is a travesty, because I now live in Hawaii. So, my car is getting the tranny rebuilt, along with a new neutral safety switch and a new TPS, apparently it was on it's way out too. The guy is gonna do the JMOD as well. All this for a whopping $1866.48. OUCH!! I guess I cant really complain, the trans has 137,000 miles on it. Now I will have a new car. The engine was replaced 13,000 miles ago along with the engine harness and the cooling system. All the airbags are new too. Wish me luck, I will get it back tuesday or wednesday. Until then, Im stuck with the Shoe leather express, because I could only ship one vehicle here on the Corp's dime....(see my signature)

That's not a bad price. I lost 3rd in my Contour SVT and they want between $2500-$3000 to repair it.

Man, where are you guys buying your trannies?

I can buy ALL the parts listed in Jerrys thesis for about 1050-1100 bucks and my tranny guy hooks me up with the labor for only 250 bucks.

I would love to get that price. I've been to 2 dealers and they quoted the same price. I've only lost sync in 3rd but it's the hardest to get to. I don't need a complete rebuild just replace either 1 2 3 or 5 4 3.

Chris, you remove and install it yourself, right?

If you drop off a tranny and bring in your own parts you can get it done a lot cheaper.

One of my friends had to get the tranny rebuilt in his dodge spirit r/t (that r/t makes it a bitch... there were less than 5000 cars with that specific tranny with a specific sensor in the right place, so the junkyard was out of the question). Found a place that would do labor for like $200. Dropped it off, got a list of parts it needed a couple days later. About $1500 in parts later, he had a good trans.
