I Fixed my Gen 1 Temp Gage

The temp gage in my green 94 always read too low (cold). It never overheated or ran bad, and the heat always works fine, but I knew it was wrong. It would be at about 7:00 and sometimes for no reason, would quickly go colder, even in 80+ degree weather.

All I did was unplug and re plug the temp sensor on the passenger's side. Now it reads mostly at 9:00 but it was a bit higher when it was 85 degrees with the AC on, doing about 80 mph 2 days ago.

Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else noticed this on their Gen 1.

I used to have this on the 96 Mark I had but never figured it out. However my 96 Cougar never reads completely warm either, maybe I will try that fix on my Cougar. Sounds simple enough, but I don't think it's going to work on my Cougar because I replaced the temp sensor (both of them) about 4 years ago and it didn't change anything.

Well, we're in a bit of a cold snap lateley, and it's not reading 9:00 anymore. I'm not sure if it's the weather or the circuit now. It might just be a bad connection, wire, or the sensor like you say.

I'm coing to take a good look at it tomorrow, then take it for a long drive.

I should change the subject of this to: I thought I fixed it.:D

Thanks, but it seems to be doing ok for now. It looks like I have a bit more serious problem to fix now, a fuel pump.:(

Does anyone actually use their fuel pump? ;)

I only use it when I want to start the car.:D

This car has been having some odd problems lately. Last week it was a lower control arm, and on the way to a camping trip, I started getting an oil temp signal error.

No big deal, I'll just drive the 98 for now.:)

The oil temp signal error is probably just a bad connection to the sensor on the side of the oil pan. I haven't had time to even look at yet. It's not serious, the warning message doesn't even beep for it. It doesn't even appear unless you press the system check button. The data is used to calculate the oil life left though I believe.

The fuel pump symptom is no sound from the fuel pump, (it's been noticably louder lately) and no starting. I haven't even looked at that either but, with 185k miles, I'll swap it just to be sure.:D
