I get no luck....

For the record, my car has been undriveable more than 80% of the last 18 months due to suspension, alternator, abs, wiring, etc failures.

Just got the car back on the road (600 mi) from the last alternator/battery debacle when I hit a dog on the way home.

The dog just came out of the shadows. I saw it maybe a hair of a second before I struck it. The dog ran away, and the police were still looking for it when I left, I do hope its ok.

The car is not. Headlight, chrome strip that runs under the hood and side marker/turn signal are destroyed. The fender is bent/damaged, but its too hard to see for sure what else, it's too late.

I'm disgusted beyond words. I can't afford to fix it right now, so it'll be sitting for a while, till I can make it right. At this point I might as well wait till I can afford HIDs and a paint job....

RE: I get no luck....

Shouldnt the insurance pay for that???? Specifically the owner of the dog??? Anf if you dont know who they are, what about your insurance? And you might as well tell them that you had HIDs while your at it and just pay the difference to the body guy to paint the rest of your car. It wil be even cheaper if you prep the resat of it for him.

RE: I get no luck....

That's really a drag, Scott - do you have comprehensive insurance?

RE: I get no luck....

That really sucks. I hope it all works out for the best.

Things like that are another reason i upgraded to a gen 2. It was at the point where the cost of collision/comprehensive insurance was just not justified by the value of the car. So i got a more valuable car. I wasn't about to park the car in Flint without comprehensive coverage.

RE: I get no luck....

The Dog just contacted me to represent him :)

Seriously though, I am sorry that this happened to you and I hope the car will be fixed soon to your complete satisfaction!

RE: I get no luck....

Scott,

I am very sorry to hear the problems you have had. I had similar problems, but they never came all at once like yours seemed to.

80% without your vehicle is tough

I am on my fourth door handle..=) somehow I got this covered a couple times.

Alternator..I think I got part of it covered.

Thermostat..This cost me $70 or so...just a big inconvenience.

Front Air Bags...I believe I got this covered under the extended.

Front seat glide...dealership decided to cover it.

I haven't had alot of down time with my Mark, however, I feel your pain. Specifically, a couple years ago my mother backed into my Mark with her Pathfinder as it was parked at the top of the driveway..then a couple months later I hit a patch of ice on I-95 doing about 35ish and spun like a top across four lanes, finally slamming into a concrete barrier.

I had to drive the car around like that for awhile..it was horrid looking, but the bright side was I had 2 fat insurance checks, and coupled with my own funds, I was able to have the car fixed the way I wanted..custom chameleon paint job..HIDS..etc. etc(it helps to know people who do autobody...and there are plenty here who can direct you in the right direction..ie custom work discounted)

I had pretty close to a show car last year at Carlisle, unfortunately, the day after I returned a shopping cart ate up my passenger door panel leaving a foot worth of dents.

Once again...driven around like this for almost a year...car goes into paint the end of the month...=)

I guess what I am trying to say is that we're all with you. Times can get tough...and as bad as things seem...there is always worse..just look at Lonnie's car with the custom flame job..his car got keyed up and down the length of the car..ouch.

My advice is this...get as much from your insurance as possible...get what they owe you! Then sit tight. Wait till you have the money to do the HIDs and the paint...trust me you will be happy.

This is small consolation..but try to see things this way...these cars are pretty sound structurally...you should get alot of miles out of the tranny and engine if you take care of them. Anything can be fixed, upgraded, or restored. Just remember, once you fix one problem or maintanance item, you are pretty golden(hopefully) for a long time. Don't worry..brighter days are coming.

RE: I get no luck....

Its not very heartening to hear the dog has hired representation....

Anyway, there will be no insurance involved. Cali is a strange place for insurance and its getting hard to get. I don't want to run the risk of getting a "reputation". I was already blacklisted for homeowners because I had a theft (but no claim!) so I won't take the chance of even talking to them.

As far as the owner, the dog ran off, and I nor the police ever found it. They took a report, I guess there is some oblique chance I might be able to tie them together, but I doubt given where it happened the owner would have much money to help out.

As for the rest, It looks like the plastic/composit (called a header, I have heard) panel that goes across the front of the car has the corner broken off. Looks like I'll need some signifigant front end surgery to restore it to perfect.

It'll have to wait till summer. Hopefully I'll have time to collect all the necessary parts, get HIDs and get the whole car painted...

If not, it's not like I've had it enough to miss it lately, so, I kinda don't really care anymore.

RE: I get no luck....

Unfortunate, sorry to hear that.
I had a deer almost cross the highway in front of me this morning while driving about 65 mph. Luckily it decided to stop about six feet from the right lane, because I never could have. BTW, saw three dead on the same stretch of road.
