Good morning, all:
I told Whiplash that I would let everyone know what happened between the repair shop and me concerning the inept work that was done. Mine was the post where they butchered my harness chasing a problem that they caused.
Last Thursday, I stopped at the repair shop to talk to the sales manager. I told myself to be cool and handle this in a cold calculating manor. When I started talking, all that resolve went out the window. I became upset because of all the problems they caused. I told him that the mechanic who worked on it had so many exposed bare spots in the harness when he decided to attack it with a pocket knife, that it was shorting to the chassis constantly. I told him that they didn't even have sense enough to wrap the harness so that they would ensure they weren't causing a problem.
I came in there with a thick folder with their name on it. I told them that I had a AAA representative present when I unwrapped the electrical tape they had put on in order to show him what they had done. They are AAA certified. I also told him that I had contacted the Attorney General's office and the consumer affairs division of the Department of Motor Vehicles.
The sales manager told me, "Hold on Mr. Kitchen. the mechanic who originally worked on your car is almost out of here. Yours is not the first car he's messed up on. Before this gets out of hand, let's see if we can't resolve this". I told him that I wasn't going to stop until he fully refunded my money in addition to the extra expense I incurred repairing the problem. The sales manager stated that they would probably refund my money but not the expenses I incurred. He told me that he would meet with the owner and get back to me.
The owner called me personally last night and wants to arrange a meeting with me.
I spent approximately $250.00 repairing the problem. $55.00 for the code reader is included in that cost. I bought an OEM coil from the Ford parts dealer when I discovered that they had lied about replacing it with an OEM part. I bought two insulators because I didn't know if they had replaced the original one; it didn't look new so I didn't want to take a chance.
I discussed this with my wife and she told me that if they refunded the full amount of the repair bill, not to demand the extra expenses that I occurred. Since all of you were so helpful in repairing my problem, I was wondering what you would do in this situation. Do I push the extra expenses that I occurred or settle for the refund of the original repair bill? I personally would like the full cost of this fiasco refunded.
