Fellow Members,

After three years and four months without a Mark VIII I am finally back. I'm purchasing a '98 LSC with 41k miles and am taking delivery in early April (when the current owners new car arrives).

I'm very exited to be back into a "Mark 5" (as my boys call it - kids are cute).

I will soon be in the market for the following:

Heated Seats (I'm not passing on this car just because its missing 1 option)
Exhaust improvements (cat back probably - don't want too loud, but a nice note)
A chip or programming improvements
Tinted Windows (local shop will do for me)
Sensor lowering (I may need help on this one - pizza & beer anyone??)
Cobra R chrome wheels / Tires (currently has stock alloy directionals)

Withing 3 weeks of obtaining the car I will post my 1/4 mile times (I'm about 15 minutes from the local track). My '95 LSC was stock and ran 15.08 (or so, I posted it in July or Aug of 2000, but lost the slips) - it was bone stock too. I'm hoping the '98 LSC has similar performance numbers. I have a K&N filter kit that never was installed in the '95 that I'm told will fit the '98 - so that'll be the first upgrade (I'll do it after I run it stock, then post improvements after each set of mods).

It feels really good to be back again and I can't wait to take delivery of my new (to me) Mark VIII!!!

Todd - look in the For Sale forum for a guy selling actual Ford SVT Cobra rims, including BFG 245/50 tires for $700 shipped, (he dropped his price)! These are what I have on my '97 LSC, and I think they're perfect! BTW - I believe you have the chrome directionals, not the alloys, and if they're in decent shape, you can likely sell them for a good percentage of what Cobra Rs will cost - that's what I did.

Wow!! $700 sounds like a great price . . . I wonder if he'll hold them for me until I actually take delivery of my Mark VIII? (I don't want to buy in case the owner dies or crashes the car, etc. or even if the car is not as pictured/described) But, for $700 . . . maybe I should get them anyhow??

A silver '98 sounds like a nice car. You will love the upgrades from the 1st Gen to the 2nd.

Welcome.

RE: I'm Back - Now improved with a '98 LSC!!

That's a good question . . . what upgrades are there from '95 to '98? I have seen the outside (pictures) but have yet to see the interior. I read the computer center didn't have the traction control button that it was a "menu item" now . . but that's it.

What are the main differences (I know about the HID's but I had HID's on my '95) between the two?

Thank you!

RE: I'm Back - Now improved with a '98 LSC!!

The gen 2 headlight housings are bigger, and the HID's MAY be better on the gen 2 then they are on the gen 1.

The interior on the 97-98 has a few minor changes, mostly to the console and dashboard. The door handles and other trim pieces are chrome. The wood trim is a little nicer. Heated seats are available stock. On the '98, the emblem on the steering wheel is an actual emblem rather than just being a cutout. Gen 2's have a power tilt and telescoping steering wheel. There are a few other little features i'm surely forgetting as well.

RE: I'm Back - Now improved with a '98 LSC!!

I remembered a few more. On the gen 2, EVERYTHING is lit up on the interior. The cruise control buttons, window up and down buttons, the door handles, etc. The mirrors will automatically tilt down in reverse. The seats go to their memory positions when you hit the unlock button on the key fob, based on which remote you're using. The traction control is more effective (all speed and cuts power rather than just using the brakes). The seats are shaped slightly differently. There are two cupholders instead of one, and neither of them work worth a crap. And i'm sure i'm still forgetting a few differences.

No antenna - for reduced drag and wind noise issues. ;-)
