Installing Tranns Cooler

I got a tranns cooler from summit, it's a B&M #70274 11x11x1.5 29,200BTU

I want to use the stock "tranns cooler" as a preliminary cooler which will then lead into the B&M cooler. It seems that if you use both coolers your fluid will be cooler than if you just bypass the original one and only use the aftermarket one.

Does the tranns fluid flow into the top of the radiator and out of the bottom, or into the botom and out of the top?

RE: Installing Tranns Cooler

It will NOT run cooler with the radiator in line. The only reason to leave the radiator in line is if you live in a cold climate where an "overcooling" effect could take place.

RE: Installing Tranns Cooler

That tech article didn't help Bud. It did not specify which one is the inlet and which one is the outlet. Do you know which is which?

I just took a short trip and felt the temp with my fingers. It "seems" like the top tubing is hotter than the bottom one. Can any one confirm that the top is the inlet and the bottom the outlet?

Also, is it better to bypass the stock cooler? If so, what's the reasoning behind it? Is bypassing better for certain applications; strip only, daily driver, weekend warrior, all scenarios?

I know how to install a tranns cooler, I put one in my 94 and it was cake. I just want to make the tranns cooling better for the 98.

I have to concur. On my car I was not happy until I finally bypassed the radiator.

You should run a transmission temperature gauge when bypassing the radiator.

RE: Installing Tranns Cooler

My radiator OEM lines are bypassed and plugged as well. Straight to the cooler i say, and my tranny fluid checks are always nice and red with no burnt smell. She must be liking it.
