intake and chip, whats the best combination

I would like to add an intake with I guess the new MAF, which is best value for doing this, to go along with a computer chip (something that advances the timing or adds more hp). I have seen something about blue oval chips. Is it better to get a chip, or to do some sort of piggy back system?

Also, is there a thread to remove the air intake silencer. I have taken out the airbox and tried to remove that silencer but putting on it with a vice grips but to no avail. I heard someting about having to go at it through taking off the passengers side wheel, but I dont to get to all that with out some kind of write up.

What is your goal?! By doing all this?! Also what is your budget?

I had to use a dremmel tool to cut the screws off the air intake silencer otherwise it was impossible to remove.

Lonnie at Blue Oval Chips would be my first suggestion, he knows the "dos and donts" in regards to these cars.

As for the intake, save your money and apply that to the chip.
The stock mark 8 intake and MAF are perfectly suited for a near stock mark 8 that isn't running forced induction {blower or turbo}

Dont buy into the "Larger MAF" hype as it's just that.. HYPE.. expensive HYPE.

Ditto on the intake. I would spend that money and change out all my fluids to full synthetics because you will get more benefit out of it

Ok, I just placed an order today with LincolnMotorsport to get there chip. I also printed out instructions to remove the air silencer snorkal and resonator. If I didnt have to remove the wheel I would do it right now, however it is raining and my car is lowered, can't really get my jack underneath there.

Also, how do I make a cone filter with the stock maf- how do I make an adapter to put a filter on the end, as of right now the stock one you cant put one on there. I saw someone welded something to make a fabricated one. I would much rather spend money on that cobra intake manifild with cone style, but im not sure how much that runs... I just want the sound, is there any difference after removing the resonator and silencer vs intake?

Also any commentso on the lincolnmotorsport chip would be great. Guy on the phone sounded extremely professional and confident. I gave him my ecu catch code or whatever and vuola, plus on sale, can't beat it.

Anyone with any suggestions on how to remove the snorkel thing would be great, I really do not want to take the wheel off if I can help it. Is it possible?

You can buy those adapters on ebay for $10 I believe... in case you want to use a cone filter...

The addition of a cone filter and a C&L MAF housing caused my Torque converter to act funny on downhill grades... it also made the car run hotter because the stock intake is a cold air intake.

does this happen to everyones cars? is there someone that sells them outside of ebay because I do not have ebay, but I do have paypal. So basically you can't use the stock maf for a cone filter. I would like to make my own, so I buy that 10 dollar piece to fit on a cone filter, and I can get one of those fabricated ice box things. I also like the cobra intakes, but i have no idea how much they cost, maybe a mustang gt one?

How does this compare to drilling the airbox with a k and n drop filter?

just got a chip from lincoln motorsport, ide like some extra horsepower, throttle response and most of all the sound! does that answer your question?

Ide like not to spend more than 100 dollars for the intake. So if I could get a 10 dollar maf cl thing or whatever, a 40 dollar cone filter, and use the rest to fabricate a heat shield. or do the silencer and resonator removal, drill the air box and put in a k and n drop in filter - 50 bucks... whatever works better?

is the bigger mafs needed? i'll have the chip very soon.

If you want extra sound just get new mufflers... hell just chop the old ones off and put in straight pipes...

Besides that I wouldn't waste money on anything else but a chip from a reputable vendor like Blue Oval Chips.

And chop off the 3rd cat, that will help with a better sound too.

I just removed the stock airbox with k&n panel off the 96 and installed a 9 inch K&N conical with proper adapter and a smooth bellow rubber piece which is better than the stock piece and I would do this again on any Mark VIII... it sounds so much better at WOT.

installed a 9 inch filter like he said, sounds great under WOT.... revs seem to be quicker in the higher numbers. I got the adapter from parts store called A and A, used the stock bolts from the maf to bolt it together, it was a universal filter, so for now instead of getting the short elbow piece i used the stock one and just put a rubber end in there to make the other end of the maf fit. It is working out nice for a total of $45 bucks.
