RE: intake + popping sound

I'm going to guess...

a mis-fire from a bad coil boot. ::roll::

RE: intake + popping sound

i thinking something like that too, but i am new to the coil on plug thing.....i need to change the plugs any ways. or check them to see if they need changing. do the 97-98 to do replace the coils or no?

RE: intake + popping sound

It's a typical Ford EEC-V setup for the coil on plug. 99% of the time they diagnose a bad coil when all that is needed is the coil boot(s) and some generous application of di-electric grease. Be aware if you have one 'stick' you can easily damage an otherwise good boot in the effort to remove it to access the spark plug.

RE: intake + popping sound

while i was taking off the cop one of the boot decide to just came apart (Dam 34$ for one) also went ahead and changed the spark plugs..need to change the iat sensor..that is what making the popping sound and c.e. come on, i want to just throw a 302 in it... i miss my stang........... :(

I don't know where you bought that gold plated boot, but you should have been able to buy all 8 for that price! Before you go out and get taken for anything else, check here at this site for pricing on stuff....roam around the folders...do a "search" for the subject material...hint - do and "advanced" search. You'll get less hits on things you aren't looking for...

Also, go to an auto parts store and buy one of those tools that remove those boots without tearing them in half. In your case, that was probably arcing anyway.

Once you get that monster running right, you'll never look back at that slow 302!

slow when @ a stop light or sign and getting gas... LOL.....

RE: intake + popping sound

$34 is the price for the coil and boot not just the boot.

Autozone has the 97 engine listed as gen1 setup. Meaning they show a spark plug wire set for the car. Becareful when talking to them about the COP. When I had my mark it took me talking to 5 different people at the local AZ to get them to understand what I was talking about. Also AZ doesn't sell just the boots. Go to the local dealership and you can get the whole set of boots for what they want to charge for the coil/boot setup.

RE: intake + popping sound

thats why i took the cop not the broken boot...so they know what i am looking for........you have to ask for a coil....helps them out more......
