I live in an area with lots of radio congestion (Toronto), and I've heard that FM transmitter won't work well here...I might try anyway, Thanks!

Dude, I live in chicago and I have an iTrip and have maybe heard interference once or twice in the 7 months I've had it. I bought an imitation iTrip and had lots of interference, but then I bought the real thing and it works great. Witht the iTrip you can set it to any station you want, so I set mine to a really low frequency that isn't used and no interference. Also it makes a noise about a second or two before your cell phone rings. Anyway, the thing works for me.

RE: iPod input

Funny, I was just in a shop today that does car stereo and I happened to see something like what you're talking about.

Check this out:

http://www.pie.net/applepie.cfm

It apparently connects directly into your system, and uses your CD changer controls to switch tracks and whatnot. It doesn't use FM or any of that crap. The application guide says it will fit 95-98 Mark VIIIs with CD changers. It sounds pretty slick if it does what they say it will but I haven't heard anything else about it.

I think there are several companies that make them, because the one I saw today was a different brand. I think the company was just called Interface.

RE: iPod input

Heh. It's funny you ask. I was using an iPod in my Lincoln before upgrading the stereo.

And what's funny is I JUST put my modulator on eBay!!!

This one connects directly inline with the ANT. Zero interferance. Oh, you need a stereo RCA-to-1/8" adapter from Radio shack to connect a device with headphone jacks. $5 Easy.

Gives ya a good idea of what is out there. I've installed the same one in a friend's Suburu for his iPod after he got sick and tired of the FM transmitters he was buying, that all sounded like crap (they did!). It wasn't until I installed one liek this that he finally got to hear nice, clear music.

Trust me, those FM Transmittors aren't what they are all cracked up to be.

Very interesting. :)

But i got rid of the stock headunit years ago.

I installed a $3800 system (that was @ cost! I did the labor and got the hookup for dealer prices for most parts, except the MB Quart Premiums).

After all of that, I tried out about a 1/2-dozen hi-gain (stock headunit outputs) -to- RCA converters, so I could hook up the major-sized amps. THEY ALL SUCKED! Including the CD and CHanger quality of sound.

I ripped a cheap CD player off of their display room to try pure RCA connectors to the amps, no ther tuning. PERFECT.

In other words, the headunit sucks. Heck, that's all I replaced in my Cobra and it brought my Mach460 to life! Ford's stock head units are aweful IMO.

... we all know the tape adapters don't work.Anyone have any suggestions?[/div]

FWIW, I have a tape adaptor rigged with my Sirius satellite radio in the F250 and it works well. Not that I would want the obtrusive wire in the Lincoln though.
