Is a first gen Mark VIII well protected against theft?

I've been investing a lot (time, money, emotional) into my '96 Mark as all of us here so I'm wondering what are the chances that it could be stolen? Sure anything is possible but is a first gen hard to steal compared to other cars? I know it dosen't have the computer coded key like a second gen...

I did read in the service manual that the ignition key lock cylinder is 'monitored' and the hood has lock out feature.

Are there recommended steps to take to prevent theft?

Does a Mark VIII have a low theft rate?

I appreciate any input.:)
