I think you've got the right idea here. After all, didn't you see how fast they blew through the plastic trays? Maybe the metal would add some sparks to the show :)

Also, I wonder if he had the climate control on? The inside of the car was awfully smokey and from what I could tell the windows were up.

What they should have done:

Use metal cookie sheets, sprayed with WD-40....get a good straight away, get going, then just whip the wheel, and do what they call in Japan.... ummmm.. Drifting? That would be cool.

BTW, the 4WD guys invented that way back when. They used to put the rear wheels on a snow saucer(you know.. like a sled) and go to town!!!
