J-Mod

I am going to be having the J-Mod done to my tranny. I allready have a programmed E from Dennis. I am looking to firm up the shifts a bit without making it harsh.

I have two questions for those that have done this mod. 1. Does leaving the springs out make the shifts too hard/harsh for everyday driving? 2.Where can you buy the drill bits needed?

Any and all input is welcomed.

RE: J-Mod

Do everything as it says to for the 300-450 hp setting. I believe that entails leaving a few springs out, so do it. It shouldn't make the shift too hard, but that's all subjective. I like very very hard shifts, so when i had my car tuned, that's the way i had it set up. Your chip is going to determine how hard it shifts more than the j-mod anyway, so if you think it shifts too hard (which i doubt you will) then have your chip reburned.

You should be able to get all the drill bits from Sears Hardware. Thats where i bought them when i did the j mod on my car.

RE: J-Mod

I did the jmod a couple of weeks ago, and the tranny cooler. it wasn't that neck snapping at first, but it kind of is now. It will shift smooth if you're not on it. I bet your passengers will spill their sodas if they're trying to drink while you're accelerating.

There are some random pics on my user page http://mark8.org/users/JackDonkey/

I left the spring out of the 2-3 and I left the bottom spring out of the 1-2, but I replaced the upper 1-2 spring with a -BA instead of a -AA per the big thesis that Jerry guy wrote.

Also if you're installing a drain plug in the drain pan, make sure the gasket doesn't suck like the one I bought, I end up welding it a couple days after the install, a copper washer might work (that's what driller told me).

I have the stock chip, so maybe your shifts will be more neck snapping than mine. The only mods on my car are the tranny cooler, the jmod, and I removed the air intake silencer thing.

RE: J-Mod

I had to go to ACE hardware to get the right drill bits, sears did not have them in my case, all they had was fractional stuff. I'm in minneapolis if that matters any as far as regional stores are concerned.

RE: J-Mod

As far as the hard shifts go I Don't think you will feel they are to harsh and if you do you the next time you change the fluid you can always just put in a bottom spring. For the drill bits you will have to go to a "Good" hardware store not just home depot etc.Call around first to see if they carry numbered drill bits and save yourself some time.

RE: J-Mod

i gotta do this one of these days in the near future.. just not firm enough with just the chip...

JackDonkey, where in minneapolis are you? New Hope here...

RE: J-Mod

I'm in champlin just west of 169.

The part number for the upper 1/2 spring is in the thesis paper thing on the tccoa website, I think it is the same exact part number as the stock spring except there is a BA instead on an AA at the end.

Sorry for not responding promptly, I bought a VIA chipset motherboard and I have windows 2000 and that's not a good combo.
