RE: just checking...

Wow what a blast from the past. Long time since I have seen anything posted from Lonnie!Putting hardened sheel studs in the red car tonight so I can run slicks tomorrow. Taking an extra halfshaft to the track in case I break one...

Yeah, I've had to keep a low profile for awhile... I didn't go with the hardened studs in the rear but I should have. I did the fronts only because I have to use a 1/4" spacer to keep the rims from rubbing on the spindle. So I installed the longer studs after I cut them down to the length I needed.
As for the rear, I've been plagued with a bad trans for awhile so it was a slow process. When replacing the trans with a fully built unit we found I had burned up another PI triple disc. So a custom TC was built for me. While testing the new parts something went wrong and I ended up with a very bad vibration. We figured I broke a half shaft or V-joint during the romping. Checked things out and found a V-joint gone so ordered a set of R-axles for it. While replacing the shafts I found both splines were twisted pretty bad so it was only a matter of time before those went. Replaced the bearings while I was at it. Still had the vibration so checked the work and found one of the new bearings had failed. So in with another set and still a vibrations. Put the car on the lift to run it and possibly see what the hell was going on and found a wheel was bent at the hub. So the 03 Cobra wheels were swapped along with the bolt pattern.
After that I still had the vibration so next was the rear end. It was just over the max for play so it got rebuilt. While it was out I checked out the MMC drive shaft, it looked good. Even tried indexing it. New rear went in and same problem. Replaced all subframe mounts and same thing. New tires and balance, same thing.
Finally resorted to trying the stock drive shaft and all was good. Sent the shaft back to Dynotech and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. So I had them magniflux it, then replace the U-joints and rebalance it. Still haven't had time to stick it back in yet and test it.
But I've been able to get the programming right for this new trans and TC at least.
Was hoping to hit the track this weekend but it just didn't work out as planned.
