Let it snow! MN Style

I didn't want to hijack Bill's thread, so here's some snow photos from my neck of the woods.

The Mark has been tucked away in the garage for the season. (I'll take "what's behind door number 3" for $4000...) It doesn't even know what it is missing, and that's just fine with me.

This is what 17 inches of snow, and a bunch of wind looks like

So far, so good, actually. No leaks, no noises. Apparently they knew how to do it in 1924. the fact that there isn't nearly enough insulation probably helps too..

The previous owner did leave behind a roof-rake. I suppose they didn't think they would need that in New Mexico. Perhaps I should look into trying it out. I hadn't given it any thought, to be honest...

Well as long as roof is not made like an air mattress you should be ok :D

lol.. that took me a second.

I've been in the Metrodome exactly one time in my life. This morning on the radio, they were interviewing the owner of one of the adjacent bars. "this is why we need a new stadium! we're losing customers!" never mind the fact that any new stadium would likely *not* be built on top of the existing one..

You wouldn't have been hijacking my thread Mike, I kind of figured people would share their snow experiences anyway. Mine was a little more about the preparation for the snow anyway though.

I'm sure there will be many more about snow.:D

Nice photos! I like the way snow looks blue sometimes.:)

the blue is more a sign of "Mike really, really, needs to get a new camera." than anything else.. the phone-cam sure is handy though.

I guess St. Paul still hasn't dug themselves out yet. schools are closed again today. (for clarification, North St. Paul, where I live, is an entirely different community. No problems here..)

Hey thats cool...I was born in Rochester. :D I miss the snow....but I don't miss the snow, if you know what I mean.

Beerdog. Yup. all but the first 4 inches or so, came on Saturday.

J: I know exactly what you mean. If it weren't for my little tractor, this would have been a *very* long weekend. between myself, and the neighbor across the street, we must have cleared half the neighborhood. Now I just have to kick back, and wait for the holiday cookies to start rolling in. :) If you ever find yourself back in the neighborhood, you've got a place to stay. (not that I'm all that close to Rochester..)

I hate snow.

Hubby shovels the roof sometimes. I think that's how he found the glass from the exploding beer bottle.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate the offer. Gotta go through St. Paul to get to the airport don't you?

Yep. I'm north and east of St. Paul. but the airport isn't a bad drive. 30 minutes or so, I'd guess.

Imy grandpa worked at the mayo clinic for a long time and I grew up in St. Paul.

The roof rake is more to prevent ice buildup from getting under the shingles, not so much for the snow.

We got a nice layer here a week or so ago, but not like that! That's a sweet little tractor setup ya got. I just have a regular old snowblower, but the neighbor across the street usually plows everyone's sidewalks with his quad.

you're right about that roof-rake. I may need to get that out. I have some epic ice dams (and icicles to go with them) at the back of the living room. with some coming out of the soffits. that can't be good.

As for the tractor, I've been pretty pleased with it. it's a 1985 John Deere 212, but the blower is for the older 100-series tractors. The whole thing was given to me a few years back by the frustrated owner of the company I worked for. his son had burned out the starter. he bought himself a new tractor, and gave me everything you see there, and a 37' mower deck as well. It burns a little oil, and I have to clean the points regularly to keep it running right.

The blower is only a single stage, so it doesn't handle the really wet stuff particularly well. Luckilly, we don't get a lot of that around here.

Between myself, and the neighbor across the street, who for some reason owns a Bobcat with a blade, we keep the neighborhood in pretty good shape.

So far, I've gotten cookies from three neighbors, and a gift card for fuel from a fourth. Not too shabby!

Dam.
