How are you going to keep up with a car that already weighs 500lbs less than a mark and has an extra 100 RWHP... ?! 4.10 ain't going to help.

Besides running that quick in a mark will break parts... and to do it right you need to spend some money...

Didn’t you fry the transmission in your 98 after slapping a supercharger on without getting adequate cooling?!

100WHP? What? A z28 has 25more rated HP but they're pretty widely regarded as making at least 25 more WHP than N/A Cobras. I ran without a trans cooler for 3000 miles or less before adding one. Also Camaros don't weigh 500lbs less.

Ok.... Camaros are about 3400 vs the 3800 for the mark... 400lbs...

Around 300 WHP for the slowmaro and regular marks are about 210 or so.

That's an M6, autos usually dyno around 285 IIRC although I'll admit I thought that M8s dyno'd around 230-240 stock.

EDIT: Did some more research and yea the A4 dynos around 285 and just a few light mods putting them over 300. :/
Still I bet with enough Sawzall and cutoff wheel work I can get in the 13s for pretty cheap in a first gen. Certainly way under 5000.

Max is right. An LS1 fbody will run 13 out of the box. But its an answer to a question that wasn't asked. I dare say an LX 5.0 Mustang is even more capable w/inexpensive mods. It would take some work for a Mark VIII just to keep up with an LS1, thats true. Still, the goal the poster wrote about is attainable with the Mark. It wont be pretty cause taking hundreds of pounds off the car will entail removing some visual items like the interior but I still say its doable. :D

I think its very doable especially if you are cool with a 13 second car. Take a few hundred pounds off, do a 150 shot of nitrous and 4.10 gears (minimum), stall converter/exhaust and it should be good to go till it blows up. :D

I was running 13's with my 3200 stall and 4.10's completely loaded and full of gas.

Under 10,000 hahaha I am talking about like 2000 and if I slapped in a posi and a set of 4.10s and dropped 500lbs from the Mark VIII it'd probably keep up with a Z28

A posi/4.10's alone isn't going to keep you up with the Camaro, not only that, you'll need to build that trans, get a new shaft, and get a chip too! You're pushing the 2K limit if you're going to do it right.

Its not about the HP, its about the entire package and how it relates when it hits the ground. You can have two identical HP cars and one will always be faster....heck, even the driver alone can make or break it.

I think with a ton of weight loss, high 13's could be conseivable.

5.0 baby! :)

When I first got my Mark, the first performance mod I did was the 3200 stall. I raced an 02 SS Vert and spanked it, needless to say, the guy was amazed. :) I was pretty happy with my car too, lol.

Mark Viii's WILL NOT RUN 13'S unless you do some serious mods. eg, nitrous, supercharger, shiftkits, stall, Taking weight out wont help you much. You can get down to a 14.3 In a real good running 93' with alot of weight removed,(on a goood running motor and tranny) and good tune up. My 97LSC ran a best of a 14.7 On motor. Thats %100 completely stock.

And kyhle i say "yes" to your first original answer. Go on craigslist find a mark 8 for 1200 bucks or so that has a good motor and tranny in it, screw the paint, interior and that sort. spend another $300 for a nitrous setup and maybe another $300 for a tune, and i promise you will run mid to low 13's all day long no prob or damage. with gears, like 4.10 you can run high 12's with just a tune gears and 100 wet shot nos. - and with a tune you can probably you can probably bump that up to a 125 shot or so

My 97 LSC ran a 14.7 on motor %100 stock
and also ran a best of 13.80 with nos AND NO OTHER MODS - no tune either, thats why motors hurt :(

These are 2 seperate statements form the same person. Does anyone else see the contradiction?

The first one was a reply to someone elses answer, saying a mark could run 13's with just weight removed.

The second statement was a reply to the first question, with the money range given you CAN make a mark do better than 13's - but not just by taking out weight

How long do you think a transmission will last on a 1993 Mark VIII with a 100 shot? and prob 150k miles... I say 1/2 a pass down the track.

If you have a tune and had your tranny serviced and tooken care of... maybe add a cooler. That tranny will be just fine. I ran atleast 40 bottles through my 97lsc w/ 160k and the tranny is still just fine....

My stock tranny in my 96 failed at 80k miles... with no bottles through it Plenty of others with gen 1s that experienced failures before 100k out here in cali... point is some last a long time, most pre 98 transmissions don't.

My trans in the 98 crown vic has 190k miles on it... same 4R70W...

High 13's and low 13's are not the same.:D

What does that have to do with my statement of running 13's?

What about....
Your intake?
Your Headers?
Your Exhaust (no mufflers, high flow cats)
Chip?

My fastest time was at Sear's Point. 13.8 w/only 3200 stall and the gears, the intake filter and no muffs. Excuse me for not adding that 2 HP I earned, lol. I didn't have a chip yet either.

My 94 is for sale:
4.10s
fairly recent tranny (30k miles on it)
1-piece shaft
chip tuned by JW Himself
k&N
dual with X-pipe
not a spec of rust

it would make a great starting point for a project like this, beyond a starting point really...

Luck.

I busted the trannies in both my deceased stock 93 and my current stock 96 after putting about 20k miles on each. Both were serviced and maintained and had under 100k on the clock. I've also busted a "bulletproof" Reinhart tranny AND a "bulletproof" Art Carr tranny. I'm currently working on Lonnie's stage 3 tranny. A lot depends on the driver. I manual shift the daylights out my Mark.

Wow. Actually, if you had some sort of reading skills, you would have noticed that DESTROYER pointed it out........I just laughed. Asshat.

+1 for luck! Ford transmissions are known for being the weak point on ALL Ford vehicles. Trust me, they kept our shop busy all year. ;)
