hi! thanks to your help, I found out the other day that my glowbox is beeping becuse I have a problem with my airbag, than I found out (thanks to you guys that the beeping is because of the airbag chacklamp is taken out). So I replaced it and the beeping stopped and now I get the "-5-1-" code flashing in it. On LOD I read that the description of this code is:
"diagnostic monitor internal thermal fuse blown due to intermittent short to ground"
could someone help me with some suggestions where and how I can fix this problem, (I just bought the car and I don't even have an ovners manual)
Thanks for your help!!!!!!!

RE: looking for "internal thermal fuse of monitor"

Hi, Ungar!

The internal fuse is inside the Airbag Monitor and cannot be serviced. The Monitor must be replaced. That's the blue plastic unit with two connectors behind the glove box. There should be a part number on a paper decal on it. It just Monitor just slides upward on two small clips.

This is a scary code because, (and I know I'll get in trouble for saying this), 99.9% of the time, there is no short. If the bags have been blown and replaced, it may pop. If someone tried to boost the car and touched the battery terminals backward it could pop. If there is a short, the new limiter won't blow right away. The airbag system will flash code 13 or 14, and if the short is severe enough it will attempt to blow fuse # 16 in the under-dash fuse box.

My advice to you is to replace the monitor, keep looking for the 13 or 14, and if you see them, pull fuses # 16 and 10 so you don't blow the limiter a second time, and let us know. There's a very good chance nothing may happen. You may only need to replace the Monitor. Remember, you have no idea what wierdness may have gone on before you owned the car!!

RE: looking for "internal thermal fuse of monitor"

thaks a lot Franky X!!!
I have a grait electrichan who fixed the computer of my subaru which had a microcrack in it, so now that I know what went wrong (thanks to you) I can tell him what is the problem and where he should look for it so he might be able to replace the fuse in the monitor. if he can't fix that I buy a new monitor. maybe he can find out what caused the short, and fix that too if it comes back. (for me in hungary this is probbabbly cheeper than to order a new monitor)
In fact you are right abbout "wierdness going on before I owned the mark" for exapmle I found that someone replaced the airbag lightbolb with a handmade peace to fool the monitor so it wount beep (because the bolb was missing). luckly he didn't manage well enough so the monitor beeper went on...
thanks for your help!!!

If you do replace the monitor, there is no need to go with a new one. A used one from a salvage or parts vehicle should suffice.
