Looking for tranny experts, problems with my 97

I'm having problems with the tranny in my 97 lsc, There's a noise, like a whining sound, sounds like a really worn out bearing, i thought it was one of my s/c bearings on the front of the motor, but when i took a broom stick to locate the source of the noise it wasnt coming from the motor at all. sounded like it was coming from the under the car, so i put the stick up to the bellhousing and the other end to my ear and it's definatly coming from there. It's really loud in park, neutral and reverse, when it's in drive 2 or 1 it gets really quiet but when you step on it you can hear it whine as the rpms go up.
The noise has been getting worse and worse, and all of a sudden one morning on my way to work the car had a hard time shifting from 1st to 2nd, the shift was really late and soft when it did shift. on the way home it was worse. the next day i took the car around the block to see what was going on, and from a stop when i started going and the car started shaking, shuddering like going over bumps and now the car hardly even shifts into 2nd..

I havent driven it in a few days, anyone have any idea whats going on.. i'm most concerned about the noise, i've never heard a noise like that coming from a tranny.

forward clutch seals /stator support.

rebuild time.

I based my guess on the TCCOA "diagnosing transmission problems" topics in the technical files.

I have suffered the same fate on a 94 trans...

with the E-trim, you need to beef up the tranny anyway, so now is as good a time as any.
