Lost Wheel Lock for 2nd Gen 10 spokes

Well, I did it to myself this time. I've lost my wheel lock. It's for a '98 Mark with chrome 10 spokes. I think I left it on the wheel by mistake when I put on the summer rims, then drove off. Where it landed, nobody knows! I've looked in the glove box and owners doc's for a number and/or reference but no luck.

Any advice would be appreciated. Could it be that there aren't that many different patterns? I did go to a local dealership and they gave me a box of mechanics "keys" to try. No luck. It's not a big Lincoln shop so I'm not surprised.

Meanwhile....

I had the same problem a long time back with the Mark VII wheels. They have a tool to remove the locks at most tire shops but unfortunately it ruins the lugnut. I ended up buying a complete set of chromed lugnuts to replace the ones on the wheels since there was no way to find a match.

Thanks, I'll consider that too. I did a subsequent search on this site and found a thread back several years ago. Referenced Mcgard. I just sent them an email. What a pain in the arse! At least I don't have a flat to deal with..... yet!

The cost of new locks is not an issue. Getting the existing one's off is the challenge without wrecking the rim. Nothing like a challenge, is there!

you can use a socket thats just a tiny bit smaller then the locker and hammer it on and use an impact to zip it off fast, you wont hurt the wheel unless you miss with the hammer and hit the wheel!! then you can just get 4 new locks with a new key. i have done this so many times i buy alot of marks from the auction sometimes the keys are missing. i use a heavy impact socket and beat them onto the locker nut and they come right off.

you can take a pencil rubbing of the lock nut and send it to the compnay that makes them and buy a new key I to lost mine

+1 on the hammer/cheapy socket trick....you will also be able to re-use the wheel lock, lol, even though you don't have a key.

I've done the hammer and socket trick, works just fine, I used an impact socket to be safe. I also just happen to own a full ford wheel lock key set now also.... =)

If its OEM the local Lincoln dealer will likely loan you the keyset.

Most dealerships DO NOT have the master set. :frown: That's why McGard keeps a list of the ones that do. The closest one to me was 57 miles. BTW...they don't/won't loan them out. They WILL fit you with the right key for no charge IF you order/buy it from them.

I had this problem with my beater Explorer and the lcoal F/L/M dealer loaned me 3 different key sets trying to find a match. Which we never did, so I used the socket/hammer trick. Is that what you mean by they don't have the master set?

i have maybe 15 different keys for the 10 spoke style lugs i probably have one that would fit lol but i dont think you want to drive here to see.

Got it... a new key from McGard

I called the McGard folks (1-800-444-5847) and they were very helpful. Their turn around time was great! I sent them a decent close up digital photo of the wheel and within a couple of days, the key adapter showed up and fit perfectly. Cost for my trouble.... $19.99 all in. Just glad I found out before I had to change a wheel!

Good to know I can take a photo a of any key lock and get the key for it

I usually have people come in and match up their wheel lock to my shop's master set, then take the color/number and fax an order to McGard. I work at Toyota, I have no idea if any of their keys would fit a Lincoln.
