low coolant message

first of all, I did a search and found THIS POST that seems to be about what I am dealing with.

I have the low coolant message, but the level is fine, no leaks, no air in the system, temp running normal, not losing coolant in any way (ruled out the basics).

According to that thread, the sensor is notorious for going bad. I think it is my sensor. Is there a way to bypass the sensor into fooling the system into thinking the coolant is fine (I have the same problem on my Cutlass Supreme, and just unplugging the sensor disabled the light). Is there something similar I can do until I get it fixed?

Don't worry, even if I do find a bypass to fool the system, I still check my fluids regularly. Been there done that >.<

Also, where could I get another sensor, or resevoir? I don't really trust the ebay ones since they don't mention if the sensor is good, just that the resevoir is good. Also, the parts websites don't list the level sensor. Anyone have a part number? I can epoxy one in no problem.

From the manual...

Engine Coolant Level Warning System (LOW ENGINE COOLANT)

Normal Operations

When the engine coolant level is normal, the input on Pin 29 to the message center will be an open circuit. When the engine coolant level is low, the low engine coolant switch will close, grounding the input on Pin 29 to the message center and the warning will be displayed.

Based on this, when you disconnect the sensor, it will never see ground and the message center warning will never be displayed.

This is the diagnostic procedure...

o Continuous Display of LOW ENGINE COOLANT with Normal Coolant Level

Possible Source(s):
§ Short to ground in circuit between message center and low engine coolant switch.

Action(s) to Take:
§ Check circuit 794 (LB) for short to ground. Service as required.

Possible Source(s):
§ Worn or damaged low engine coolant switch.

Action(s) to Take:
§ Check continuity of low engine coolant switch -- open with float up, continuity with float down. Service as required.

Possible Source(s):
§ Inoperative message center.

Have you tried a dealer for the part?

i usually try to avoid the stealerships around here. They tend to have a 700% markup in prices. They wanted to charge me $220.00 for a new drivers door handle, and I found out it was a junkyard part they pulled (she referred to it as a Lincoln REMAN part, and when I pushed for info about it not being NEW, she said it was pulled from a car, and tested to be sure it was good).

I will try that diagnostic procedure tomorrow after work. Maybe I will get lucky and it is just a short to ground (but I will not hold my breath for it).
