A friend of my dads has a 2000 LS, V8, with 90k on it, that she just bought used. She's having a couple of problems with it that i'm going to fix for her (for a small fee ).
She has a check engine light, and the fine folks at autozone say it's a misfire on #8, so i'm going to do her plugs. That's not a problem. I just mentioned that because it MIGHT be related to the next problem.
The primary concern is some oil smoke coming from the rear drivers side of the engine. It appears that the valve cover gasket is leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold. Is this a common problem? How hard is it to fix? I'm sure i can do it, i just have to figure out how hard it is before i tackle it, so that i can charge a fair price. Will the valve cover come right off, or is it going to be a PITA? I ask simply because i'm not sure if there's enough clearance to the strut tower, or to the brake master cylinder.
