Maiden Voyage............

if you ran a 14.9 on 87 oct im sure you could pick up at least .1 sec by getting some good gas in there. with the crappy gas the motor id "knocking" and the knock sensors are picking that up and pulling timing like crazy. as much as it hurts i never run anything besides 93 in my mark the gas millage also improves. another millage improver i have found is with the fan. my stock fan went out and all i had was one from some other ford car from the junk yard they of coarse will not plug in. so its ran to a switch to stay on all the time. now my temp gauge barley moves and im getting about 21.4 MPG average or city/highway with mostly city driving.

You guys are just lucky. Cali gas gets a bit worse gas mileage... and honestly no one out here gets anywhere near highway rating... usually right around "city".

As to Devin getting 29mpg ... mmk I have driven Mark VIIIs for over 100k miles and I NEVER got that "average" in california so I am only speaking to my own experience.

Speak the Devin's name and the Devin will appear.

I got between 30 and 34 before switching over to the 3.73s. Afterwards if I baby it, I bounce in and out of 29, with an average of 28 on the highway. Before upgrading my ignition and instaling the U/D pullies I was averaging 26-27.

My current computer display with a mix of highway and city is showing 20.8.

I live about a 5 blocks from my office, and when I drive in (which I have been doing a lot of since the heart attack) I only get about 14.5 because the engine isn't even warm before I shut it back down, and there's about 4 stop signs between here and there. That tends to drive my city mpg way down.

So in short you can "Mmmk" all you want, and I am sorry that you have to drive in California. I think that Junkman can verify that I don't BS around about anything, and that includes a consistent 13.2 1/4 mile car that is driven *daily*.

I couldnt squeeze a 14.9 to save my life in my gen2 97 LSC - but it did run a 15.0 three times in a row, and thats AFTER i did the whole tune up minus the plugs, it ran a 15.3 FOUR times in a row before i did the tune up ! I run 13's now check out my video posts in the track times section :)

I've cut the mufflers off and at idle you can hear it miss bad. I went to george ray's this past weekend and ran a 9.88 1/8th, spinning like crazy so I think 9.70's stock in good air should be possible. :D

Whatever. You just stated in your post that you average between 14-20.8. So BS aside that is the mileage to look forward to. The other quy stated that you average 29, that is what the mmk was meant for, because he was averaging 23.

I averaged about 14-25mpg in my Mark VIIIs over the 110k miles I have driven them depending on driving conditions. So I know exactly what kind of mileage these things get.

I’m not about to sit here and argue gas mileage because of the many factors involved that play out in achieving high and low #.

But it is bull**** to claim that a normal mark VIII will get 29mpg AVERAGE…

Yea on the freeway going 65-70 maybe. But that wouldn’t be an average that includes driving around town etc.

I can achieve 99mpg average and i can prove it.

Floor the pedal to the floor and get her up to about 80, then around 80, let off and check you mpg - it will be horrible because you mashed it.... so let off the gas and reset it, coast to makmk8's house and show him the average.....

Hows that for proof !!!??? HAHAHA I had to run my mouth a little... you know im just playin max

My computer says I got 25.0 mpg on my trip to george ray's and back, but if I divide my mileage by gallons when I filled up when I got home, I got 28.3.

Isn't that why they seperate mileage between city/highway on the window sheet at the dealership? I don't know anyone that averages city and highway together. There's too many variables to get an accurate city reading.

What all do you have done to your car? I'm supposed to get my gears in one of these days. Everytime the guy tells me to come by to do it, he magically gets busy and tells me to come back next week.

Actually, not much. Shes got 150k miles, orginal chip,exhaust.. everthing is original. Except the 100 shot of Nitrous i put on it ! :)

As for the gears.... Im tempted to do it too, but i just love my highway speed

Ah, the nitrous is the answer. Get some gears and it'll haul the mail. :D

Must be nice to know everything about everything, Max. I don't believe that anything was said about an average Mark VIII, rather Junkman said "Devin is getting an average of 29."

I corrected that. 28 is the average I get. On the highway. And there are times when I drive back and forth to KC over the stretch of 2 or 3 weeks and during those times I am rolling with a 28 COMBINED City and Highway mpg, since about 280 of the 300 miles I put onto the clock are highway miles. During those times I can validly claim a true average of 28.

Just chugging back and forth to my office I get about 14.5, for the reasons given above... the motor doesn't even warm up. It's all idling and starting, just about the two worst things you can do when it comes to getting good MPG. I added that detail for completeness, and to explain why my overall MPG on my computer at the moment was 20 something. (It is at 23.2 at the moment).

I can't help it that I get better MPG than you do with all your experience, Max. Deal with it and stop swearing. Maybe it helps that I always run 93 octane, am running on a Reinhart tune, tend to change out my air filter every month and have a really really light foot when I am not on the track.

So I got the Mark out to the track last night. Lets recap. My car desperately needs a tranny fluid change, plugs, wires, coils, and various other tune up parts. The only thing I've done is remove the air silencer and get a new wix air filter. I was also running a half a tank of Casey's 87 octane crap gas. Now on to the track times. What do you think:

60FT- 2.26
330ft- 6.45
1/8ET- 9.81
1/8MPH- 73.46
1000ET- 12.67
1000MPH- 85.76
1/4ET- 14.91
1/4MPH- 94.46

Drop that 60ft. and you will be even lower in the 14's. Keep in mind every tenth on the short end is two tenths on the big end of the track!

That is true. If the air had been decent, it would've been atleast a tenth quicker. I get my gears and traction lock this week. :D

The gears and traction lock will help. Its tricky but what the tire pressures and play around with them till you find a good setting to hook. I have always felt with N/A cars/trucks the race is won and lost on the short end of the track . Good luck!
