Manual Transmission?

I doubt I'd ever do it but it would be fun to find out if it could be done.. hell it'd be fun to have a manual shift Mark.

Anything can be done. But sometimes there are reasons why it isn't done.
If you can find an M5R2 out of a Thunderbird with a 4.6 (if they were ever made), then you could relatively easily adapt it to the Mark. However, that would be stupid, because those transmissions suck (i know two people with them, both have no synchros going into second, one has broken 3 shifters).
If you can figure out how to hook up the clutch and fabricate a new shifter that puts the stick where it needs to be without hitting the trans tunnel, then a T56 out of a Cobra could be made to work as well. But it ain't gonna be cake. Find a 4R70W and a T56, bust out a tape measure, and see what has to be done. Plus you'll have to figure out what to do with your console.

It looks like you would have to relocate some wires and connectors. It also looks like you may have to do some welding right (when viewing from front of car) of the brake master cylinder because I think there may be a big hole in the metal part of the firewall there. And that's just to get the clutch in place. Personally I'd rather try and install a manual transmission instead of getting my automatic rebuilt, so as soon as the auto goes to hades I think I'm going to bust out the wrenches. Hopefully it happens in the summer so I can ride my motorcycle to work.

Well, if anyone in the Detroit area wants to give it a try, i'm more than willing to help. It will be complicated, expensive, and time-consuming, but I'll be glad to help, as long as someone else is footing the bill and sacrificing their mark for a few weeks.
