Mark not airing up

My new to me 93 is not airing up. I just replaced the pump because that is what the shop diagnosed the problem as. The pump runs now but the car does not air up. I get close to it and i can hear a leak. It was hard to tell if it was coming from the strut or the compressor with the tires on. So i started wiggling the air lines where they plug in and then it made the air leak louder. So i suspect that the air line is not sealing or in all of the way. if i cut the air lines with a razor blade will it be good enough or is there a better way to fix the lines?

I wiggled the line at the compressor and it made more noise. So i am assuming it does not have a good seal. So do i need to cut the line a few inches down so it will have a better seal?

not a few inches you only should trim back about a 1/4 of an inch, push them in firmly pulling back on them and pushing in again while you do it but make sure not to kink the hose while pushing it in, sounds like you just dont have them in correctly.

Maybe just a little push would help even, you may not even have to trim it back.

However, how does the dryer feel up against the compressor. Where they meet they can crack but the retaining screw holds it enough that some air can still get to the bags. I've had this happen more time than I care to remember! In my case though it was freeze up of the dryer in near zero temps. Air pressure built up and BAM! lol

I just got this pump from jamies98lsc. It is in good shape and has been tested by jamies98lsc so i doubt its the pump or dryer, but i could be wrong. I am going to take a stab at it tomorrow, its my day off. First i am going to try pushing them in more pull back then back in. If that doesnt work i am going to pull them out completely and inspect them to see if any need trimmed.

Ok so i pulled out all of the air lines and only 2 needed to be cut. I cut the lines put them all in, checked the relay terminal connection and cleaned it. I started up the car the compressor ran and the car is still not airing up. Now, the dash display that says check air ride is off. I dont have an owners manual yet but i checked all the fuses under the hood and inside the car drivers side dash panel and did not find any blown fuses.... What now? Should i swap the realy with the abs relay still? What could cause the display to go out other than a fuse?

First off...you don't have to start the car...just turn the ignition on. If any of the bags were empty, you may have to turn off and back on 3 or more times. It's a lot easier to listen to the pump without the engine running too.

Go to the Lincoln home site and download your manual - it's free.

Thanks, i will try that. I turn the car on so i dont drain the battery. But i do agree you can hear whats going on a lot easier with the car off. Any idea why the center display is not coming on?

Well i am going to try to let it air up a few more times to see if that works, if not i will swap relays with the abs relay. If the bags were leaking enough to where the car wouldn't air up would it be loud? I do not hear any leaks coming from passenger side or drivers side but the pump is a little loud and makes it hard to hear. I would assume if the the bag was torn it would be a noticeable leak.

If your pump is turning on, there is no point swapping relays. You won't hear the air leak because the system doesn't have pressure when the car is fully deflated. Its not like a leak in a tire. You could try jacking up the car in the front to normal height and then try having the air compressor pump it up.

Basically, with the car fully leaked down, your leaks in the bags are exposed, so if you use a car jack and lift up the car, the leaks may seal, allowing the car to pump up.

Ok i let the pump run 3 more times and it hasnt made any progress. However when i first ran then it looks as if it made some difference. I looked at the air bags before and after running it, and they are no longer compressed. Both of the front bags had some wrinkles in them and after running the pump, no wrinkles. The shop i got the car from put wood blocks above the upper a arm to keep it from slamming down to the ground. I do not think they are preventing it from airing up. I changed the relay with the abs and it did not change anything other than the ABS light coming on. I tried to let it air up a few times before i changed the relay back. I am going to post a pic of the blocks. tell me if they are in the way or not.

Ok, so here is how the front passenger bag looks like.

It is not fully deflated because of the wood blocks in the second picture here.

Could the blocks be causing it to sit too high and not work properly?

That is wrong in so many ways.

If that was my car, I'd put the car up on jackstands, remove the wood and airsprings, and inspect all the suspension parts with no load on them.

Then, I'd replace all the worn parts, and replace the airsprings and be done with it.

That is too dangerous to drive.
