I was reading a post about engine removal and I got the understanding that the engine must be removed from the bottom is this true? why?
I have never had to do this with any other car
one time I removed a van engine from the side door :)

RE: mark vIII ENGINE REMOVAL HELP PLEASE

You can pull it out from the top but it's a lot easier to just drop the k-member with the engine on it. You just need some really tall jack stands.

RE: mark vIII ENGINE REMOVAL HELP PLEASE

could someone briefly out line how this is done?
ok the car is sitting high on jack stands im guessing you attach a cherry picker to the top of the engine.. but wait it wont be tall enough will i need to disconnect the trans? then i un bolt the k member and lower the engine and or trans. ok now its on the floor how do i get it out from under the car I cant roll the car at this point

confused please help thanks

RE: mark vIII ENGINE REMOVAL HELP PLEASE

:) wow I saked for help and boy did I get it that was a LOT of reference material
THANKS I really do appreciate it

and it sounds like the popular way to go is out the bottom
but it still scares me to have a car so high on jack stands
well either way that 4.6 DOHC has gotto go to make room for the 347 stroker :)

thanks again

RE: mark vIII ENGINE REMOVAL HELP PLEASE

Do you guys have jacks that lift the car that high? If not, what do you consider a safe method of getting the car up there? My jack doesn't go that high. I would think putting the jack on a flat piece of concrete, like a big stepping stone or something, but that doesn't seem to be a good idea to me.

RE: mark vIII ENGINE REMOVAL HELP PLEASE

what i did was juck the car up with a normal jack as high as i could then sat the motor on the ground. than i took off the front bumper facia (cover) and hooked my cherry picker to the steel bumper and lifted it up. I did have some very tall 12 ton jack stands to set the front of the car on tho. i sat the motor on a funeture dolly and drug it out. while you have it out you might as well upgrade to some good motor mounts too because they are a pain with the motor in the car!
