Mark VIII Throttle Body Questions

Hello everyone!

Great forum you have here :). I do have to admit though that I do not own a Lincoln, nor do I own a 4.6 powered vehicle. Nor am I intending a 4.6 swap. What I do own is a 67 Mustang with a stroked 302. What does this have to do with late model Lincoln's you might ask? Well, I also own a very rare (10 pairs in existence) pair of Trickflow cylinder heads, as well as a custom EFI intake. This is where you guys come in. My manifold is designed to utilize as few as two, and as many as SIX early/mid 90's Mark VIII twin blade throttle bodies. I've been researching for WEEKS, but can find very little information on these units. Mostly, I need to know the diameter of the blades, as well as the flow rating in cfm. The type I need have the throttle linkage on the long axis, rather than the short. Is there a specific series of years that I should look for? I don't mind lower performance/flow models (I mean...I can use up to six lol...how much flow does a guy need?), but would like to be able to distinguish between them, as well as ensure the ones I choose match. Also, where would be a good resource for quality units (used Is fine) at a good price?

Anyhow, thank you all for your time. Any and all answers will be very much appreciated! For the meantime, here's some pictures of the manifold I'm talking about:

Welcome to lod. I don't know the blade size or CFM rating, but from the picture you posted, you can use any 93 thru 96 T/B.

I've seen the sizes somewhere but can't find it. :(

I have no idea on the flow rating.

Thanks for the answers guys! On another forum, someone mentioned 2", which converts to just over 50mm. Does this sound right? Four 52mm throttle plates will only support 620hp. I guess we'll see!

Cris,

I misunderstood what you meant by "long axis" so I'm editing this... You do indeed need 93-96 TBs.

According to the info I've found, the stock Mark VIII bores are 57mm, and flows at 1089 CFM.

Cris,

I'm definitely not an expert (just ask anyone here), but if you're looking for the throttle linkage on the long axis, then you want a 97-98 Mark VIII throttle body. The 93-96 had the blades pivot on the short axis.

For sure, you can also substitute a 96-98 Cobra TB for the Mark VIII, as they are identical except for the cruise control linkage. I'm pretty sure the '01 Bullitts are the same as well.

According to the info I've found, the stock Mark VIII/Cobra bore is 57mm, and flows at 1089 CFM.

If money is no object, there are a couple of companies that make aftermarket TBs with larger bores (62 or 65mm). Accufab makes one that fits the 96-98 Cobras with a single plate and looks like it would work on your manifold since you already have the oval bores. It claims to flow at 1284 CFM.

These are the first I found, I'm sure there are better deals to be found assuming you're interested in going that route.

Thanks for the replies!

On the throttle linkage, I need the blades to pivot on the short axis, thus putting the linkage itself on the long axis. If you look at the bottom picture above, youll see what I mean.

Your statement in bold, does it apply to the 93-96 throttle bodies? If so, that will work. It gives me 2k+cfm of airflow with just two throttle bodies. I wish they were closer to 500cfm though...so I could put one on each corner and not exceed my desired airflow. It'd be cool if I could find some concrete information on my specifically required throttle bodies! I'm hoping to get this thing on the street before summer...and need to figure out specifically which throttle bodies to buy, as well as find a specific flow number for them lol.

if you find the info you need and you do indeed want 6 throttle bodies, i do have enough, maybe around 10 stock 93-96 throttle bodies i can give you a good deal on.

Hey Jamie!

If you could do me the favor of measuring one throttle plate, I'd greatly appreciate it. I will probably only need two initially if they are indeed 57mm as suggested. The motor pictured above was a 329ci 302, and ran 8.60's in a 3000lb car. My car is a bit lighter at 2800lbs, has more displacement at 347ci, but is pump gas based, with the et a byproduct of 290cc heads that flow 400cfm lol. I don't suppose it will be faster than mid/high 9's.

Anyhow, if you would...let me know the measurement? Also please send me a price per unit with shipping to 89408?

Thank you!

Cris

Here's a link to what I have on my Mark, but a single blade:

George Klass at Accufab is a character lol. They built my 2" primary headers. I'll definitely look into those, but my quandary is that I have to use two throttle bodies minimum, and don't want to go much over 2000cfm initially. Definitely something to keep in mind.
