I read here that Mercon V is very important. Is their any way to completly drain the trany , lines as well as the TC without removing the trany?
Any tricks?

How much of the 16 quarts can I get out.

You should be able to drain enough that any reaming Merc III will be of little consequence. Drop the pan, drain the Torque Convertor and flush the cooler line. Let it drip out for a half hour or more.

Some of those flush machines seem to do damage.

Is there a technique to do it? Or does it all come out of the pan? Is their a drain plug on the TC side? Any info / steps would be appreciated.

The torque convertor has a pipe plug in it. If you remove the plastic dust plug on the bell housing you can see the torque convertor. You need to rotate it around so that the plug is pointing straight down (Means putting socket on crankshaft nose and slowly rotating in clockwise position)

Removing the pan is a little sloppy, but if you loosen all the bolts some and loosen the rear of the pan more you can get it to lean down more towads that side so that the fluid comes out a little neater. Be sure your new filter has the nice rubber gasket, and not a cheap paper/cardboard one.

Note, that you will probably find a little plastic plug laying in the bottom of the pan along with a magnet. Don't be alarmed as this was used in the assembly process so throw it away and clean the pan thoroughly and replace the magnet in the pan.

The Marks have a reusable gasket... most new filters come with the crappy cork gasket that I wouldn't use.
